COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A local family's Christmas light display won awards + raised funds for charity, boosting community spirit this holiday season.  21Alive
  • Santa rides a decorated trolley through Waynedale neighborhoods today at 1 p.m. The trolley stops at nine points to offer families a holiday treat with candy canes and special guests (including Mrs. Claus and the Grinch) until about 4 p.m.  WFFT-TV
  • The Red Cross is seeking local Fort Wayne volunteers to deliver blood products to area hospitals ahead of the holidays. Volunteers will work two four-hour shifts each month (available during day, evening, or night).  21Alive
  • Parkview Field is extending holiday lights hours on Christmas Eve (6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.) and Christmas Day (5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.) to offer festive family fun in mild weather. Attendees can enjoy a scavenger hunt and photo op with Santa Johnny; tickets are available now.  WOWO
  • Blue Jacket Fantasy of Lights will add another Mission Monday to allow community members who cannot afford admission to experience the display + officials say details on timing and location will follow soon.  21Alive

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Veterans National Memorial Shrine and Museum will be closed for January and February to reorganize its artifact storage and set up new exhibits (located at 2122 O'Day Road).  KPC News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • AAA projects that 122 million Americans, including nearly 3 million Hoosier drivers and 8 million air travelers, will journey during the holidays from Dec. 20 to Jan. 1. Fort Wayne International Airport expects a record season & advises arriving early to allow for extra time.  The Journal Gazette

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Tyler Webb received a $500 'Donut Make You Smile' college scholarship from the Spencerville Order of the Eastern Star at the local children's Christmas party earlier this month, recognizing his achievements & commitment to education.  KPC News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Allen County Department of Environmental Management will start its free Christmas tree recycling program Friday through January 16 at several county locations (Fort Wayne, New Haven, Metea County Park, near Fort Wayne International Airport and Monroeville) where residents must remove all ornaments, tinsel, and plastic bags from their real trees.  WOWO
