COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Public Works Division completed the 1.7-mile Golden Spike section of the Pufferbelly Trail from Ice Way to Washington Center Road on December 3 (a $4.2 million investment) linking nearly 700 businesses. Vann Family Crossing (funded by a $5 million gift) will begin construction in 2026.  Around Fort Wayne
  • North Side High School will host its 38th annual Christmas Party for Kids Surviving Cancer on Sunday, Dec. 7 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 475 E. State Blvd—children will enjoy food, crafts, games and a visit from Santa Claus in a special community partnership.  Around Fort Wayne

  • Today, the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum accepted a $5,000 gift from Community Foundation DeKalb County; director Danielle Baldwin said the donation will help support future exhibits in Auburn.  KPC News
  • Five Tibetan Buddhist monks will create a World Peace Sand Mandala inside the Great Hall of Allen County Public Library starting Monday, with the public invited to view the art daily until a closing ceremony on Dec. 13.  The Journal Gazette
  • A comedy show titled ‘Killers of Kill Tony’ will take place at Embassy Theatre on March 20 next year. The performers include David Lucas, Hans Kim, Martin Phillips, and Ahren Belisle (the lineup is subject to change).  21Alive

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Indiana Department of Environmental Management approved AEP’s plan to temporarily fill nearly an acre of wetlands for a transmission line powering a local Google data center near Paul Harding Junior High School. AEP will restore the wetlands (after the project is complete).  21Alive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A second bill has been introduced in the state legislature to allow a casino in Allen County — a measure that could boost local jobs and revenue if approved. Lawmakers plan to debate the bill further in upcoming sessions.  21Alive
  • Drivers in Fort Wayne must take detours as construction begins Friday — East Pontiac Street closes between Gay and John until Christmas Eve, with traffic routed via Hanna, Oxford and South Anthony. Southbound lanes on South Anthony also close two blocks today for water main repairs but remain accessible for local traffic.  WFFT-TV
  • Riverfront Phase IIB along the north bank of the St. Marys River is underway despite new state and federal permit conditions that removed the canopy trail & public docks. The remaining improvements, including an esplanade, urban trail, and amphitheater, will be built with completion anticipated in 2026.  US 93.3
  • Fort Wayne Mayor Sharon Tucker and Allen County Commissioners sent a letter to lawmakers supporting a proposed casino that would allocate 60% of tax revenue to local communities + 40% to nonprofits. Two state bills will decide if Rising Sun relocates or a new license is issued.  21Alive

HEALTH NEWS

  • Bird flu was detected Thursday at a commercial duck meat farm in Noble County, affecting nearly 5,700 ducks under quarantine. The Indiana State Board of Animal Health also confirmed a similar outbreak in Elkhart County with about 5,200 ducks, leading to designated control and surveillance zones.  21Alive
