  • Fort Wayne’s Cooper House has rented a duplex in the 3300-block of Kendale Drive to offer a temporary safe space for children displaced by emergency removals from their homes and to support family reunification. Former Fort Wayne Community-Schools teacher Jennifer Johnson now manages the house as part of a nonprofit effort that accepts clothing and toiletry donations to help families in need.  The Journal Gazette
  • Downtown Fort Wayne invites residents to shop local during Small Business Saturday today along the 99-block District and Broadway and Wells Street corridors—organizers arranged a trolley and CTN bus to support accessibility.  21Alive
  • The 40th annual Festival of Gingerbread returned to downtown Fort Wayne on Nov. 28 and will run until Dec. 21. It features a record 183 gingerbread displays and operates Monday through Thursday (9 a.m. to 5 p.m.), Friday and Saturday (9 a.m. to 8 p.m.), and Sunday (12 p.m. to 5 p.m.).  21Alive
  • OmniSource is hosting its second annual free electronics recycling event from Dec. 1 to 5 at 219 Murray Street in Fort Wayne—donating to Shepherds House and the Humane Fort Wayne Pet Food Pantry. The event, inspired by two employees who benefited from the programs, will waive standard recycling fees while accepting non-perishable food and pet supply donations.  21Alive

  • Fort Wayne will host the 79th annual Mizpah Shrine Circus at the Coliseum from Jan. 23 to Jan. 25 next year, offering pony and elephant rides after shows — details on specific acts have not been announced.  21Alive

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Life Adult Day Academy at 7515 Westfield Drive in Fort Wayne offers classes in math, English, computer skills, arts, and social interaction for about 55 adults with disabilities Monday through Friday starting at 9 a.m. The nonprofit, which grew from a small church to an 11,000 square foot center and gets most revenue from Medicaid, now faces challenges from state budget cuts—forcing it to adjust service options.  The Journal Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Fort Wayne’s Street Department is converting tanker trucks into snow plows to prepare for a predicted snow event from Saturday through Sunday. Residents are advised to park off-street, and the city has divided service areas into 18 routes—priority one streets are plowed and salted first—to ensure safe travel for emergency vehicles.  WFFT-TV

  • Bishop Luers Football lost to Cascade 29-14 in the Class 3A championship on Friday—sophomore running backs Brandon Gaither II and TJ Epperson combined for 193 rushing yards. The Knights won five postseason games after a slow start and will move up to Class 4A next fall.  WFFT-TV
