  • United Way of Allen County launched an Emergency Food Campaign on October 30th to raise $45,000 for Associated Churches, Community Harvest — and Miss Virginia’s to help local food pantries amid SNAP delays. The group has raised $40,000 so far and will soon present about $15,000 to each partner before the holidays.  US 93.3
  • Community Harvest Food Bank raised 137,335 pounds of food during its 11th Annual U Can Crush Hunger Food Drive Campaign from Oct. 23 to Nov. 8—local colleges competed and exceeded the target of 125,000 pounds to support hunger relief efforts.  21Alive
  • A WWII veteran celebrated his 100th birthday on Veterans Day at a Fort Wayne retirement home. Residents and staff gathered — honoring his military service with a heartfelt ceremony.  21Alive

CULTURE NEWS

  • Fort Wayne Zoo and Blue Jacket will present Fort Wayne Light Fest, a holiday event running from November 28 until January 4 that offers a drive-through Fantasy of Lights and a new Wild Lights experience at the zoo — featuring nearly one million lights, a dance party, and a chance to meet Santa in Santa’s Cottage — with early discounts available until November 9.  Around Fort Wayne

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Northwest Allen County Schools board met last Monday night amid high emotions after 53.9 percent voted against the referendum, which ended plans to raise teacher wages—open a tech center and add resource officers. Superintendent Wayne Barker said his schools continued to excel and hoped the result would push legislators to secure more funding.  21Alive
