- ➤ The Volunteer Center will launch its 26th annual Coats for Kids Drive on Wednesday, Nov. 6 at 10 a.m. at MLK Montessori School on Fort Wayne’s southeast side with Fire Chief Eric Lahey as guest of honor— the program aims to collect and deliver 10,000 coats by accepting donations through Nov. 30 to help children facing rising living costs. - ➤ Wellspring Interfaith Social Services issued an urgent call on Wednesday for nonperishable food and monetary donations to support families as SNAP benefits will be paused for November starting Saturday (donations are accepted at 1316 Broadway from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday). The food bank now serves about 120 families daily compared to 45 before and expects a further rise in demand once benefits halt. The Journal Gazette
- ➤ Wellspring Interfaith Social Services in Allen County warns that SNAP benefits will run dry on Saturday if Congress does not end the government shutdown—its food bank served triple the number of clients this morning and still ran out of food—and it is asking neighbors to donate food and money to help families in need. 21Alive
- ➤ Four Fort Wayne businesses are hosting a month-long donation drive this November to support The Rescue Mission and Charis House during National Homeless Awareness Month—donations include clothing and essentials and can be dropped off at each location during business hours. 21Alive

- ➤ Fort Wayne Community Schools announced a new initiative that partners with local colleges to give students guaranteed admission, free dual credit courses, and early college access. The three-year agreement includes Indiana Tech, IU Fort Wayne, Ivy Tech, Manchester, Purdue Fort Wayne, Trine, and Vincennes, and school counselors will help families with the application process and financial aid options. 21Alive
- ➤ The J. Kruse Education Center held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Wednesday to launch its new Discovery Maze and Manufacturing POD—part of its Career Quest exhibit that will open for a student pilot in November. - ➤ Eco Fest offers a recycling option for Halloween candy wrappers that are not accepted in regular home bins — local residents can drop off items today from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Lutheran Hospital Trunk or Treat in the downtown parking lot, with additional events planned for Friday and Nov 7. - ➤ A $9 million project on Illinois Road will improve pavement and intersections and add a 10-foot-wide multi-use trail connecting neighborhoods on the southwest side — the project is funded by city, state, and community sources including a $1 million state grant.
