COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Fort Wayne TinCaps and Indiana Pork donated about 6,000 meals of ground pork to Community Harvest Food Bank after nearly 6,000 tenderloin sandwiches were sold at Parkview Field on Thursday+the move helped meet rising meal demand in the community.  21Alive
  • Today, Community Harvest Food Bank kicked off its 11th annual U Can Crush Hunger campaign to spur a competitive drive among local schools that will boost food donations for families and support college campus pantries. The campaign will run until November 7 and every dollar donated adds four pounds of food—aiming to surpass last year’s nearly 125,000 pounds of donations.  21Alive
  • Two local organizations—Redemption House and Four:10 Ministries—are launching a new two-year residency in January for women recovering from sexual exploitation and trafficking. The program, the first of its kind in northeast Indiana, will serve up to eight women with intensive treatment, trauma therapy, and job training.  21Alive
  • The Fort Wayne Village Marketplace holiday shopping event will be held on November 14 and 15 at the SportONE Fieldhouse on Ice Way, where over 100 local vendors will offer fashion, home décor, gourmet foods and more + free shuttle service will transport shoppers from the overflow parking lot. The event runs from 5-9p.m. on Friday and 10a.m.-4p.m. on Saturday, with the first 200 adults each day receiving a free tote bag and an $8 admission fee for those aged 12 and up.  Around Fort Wayne

  • Knight Foundation, working with the Community Foundation of Greater Fort Wayne, awarded grants to WBOI and PBS Fort Wayne to boost their local public media amid federal funding cuts. ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Indiana State Police have shared safety tips to help drivers avoid deer collisions — they advise staying alert at dusk and dawn, watching for deer crossing signs, using high beams when safe, and reporting collisions, as over 17,000 deer-related crashes led to injuries and fatalities last year.  21Alive

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Environmental justice leaders at the Indiana NAACP State Convention are holding a breakfast briefing today at the Grand Wayne Center to voice concerns about a planned Google data center that may remove wetlands, install about 170 diesel generators, and store nearly one million gallons of diesel fuel & risk air quality, flooding, and higher energy costs. The briefing will also present national recommendations to ensure communities have a voice as AI data centers expand.  WFFT-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Beginning November 3, the Fort Wayne Street Department will collect leaves in over 400 neighborhoods until December 19, though weather and leaf volume may shift the schedule. Residents must place leaves at the curb by Monday at 7:00 a.m. on the collection week - daily updates with a collection map and guidelines will be provided before 3:00 p.m.  US 93.3
  • The City of Fort Wayne is seeking nominations for the 2025 Trail Volunteer of the Year Award, which honors individuals who volunteer in planning, building & maintaining the city's trails and greenways network, and nominations are due by November 7 & will recognize significant community contributions.  Around Fort Wayne
  • Indiana’s Department of Natural Resources announced that the 2025-2026 deer hunting season now allows hunters to use crossbows with an archery license and small centerfire cartridges on private land during the firearms season. The archery season runs until January 4 — a bundle license with three tags and statewide bag limits apply while hunters must secure permission to hunt on private property.  WFFT-TV
  • Lawton Skate Park closed on October 23 for repairs to its fence and foundation as the City of Fort Wayne began work, and Parks Recreation will install signs until the repairs are finished. The park is scheduled to reopen the week of November 10.  US 93.3
  • Rural food-animal veterinarians are in short supply in Northeast Indiana and NW Ohio—leaving swine and cattle farmers with fewer care options. The USDA’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture will open a combined loan repayment application for fiscal years 2025 and 2026—focusing on key counties in both states.  WFFT-TV
