  • The Allen County Public Library’s Genealogy Center will host the Lindenwood Tour: Haunted Forest from October 24 to 26 — a free event where families can explore local history at the cemetery.   • Protests organized by groups like No Kings will take place today in small Indiana communities as activists gather to defend their First Amendment rights against policies they find unfair—organizers in places like Columbus and Batesville report strong community support while law enforcement has helped keep events safe. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Annual Great Tree Canopy Comeback returns as a park event where local residents volunteer to plant trees and boost green space. Organizers say the event will soon bring community members together to learn about tree care—helping beautify neighborhoods.  21Alive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Indiana Department of Natural Resources is urging hunters to donate legally harvested deer through the Hunt for Hunger program — a system that provides grants to local nonprofits to cover processing fees while offering healthy venison to food banks, with Col. Steve Hunter stating that venison is an important source of nourishment for Hoosier families.  21Alive
  • The City of Fort Wayne’s Office of Housing & Neighborhood Services launched the New Hope Through Heat Program to offer grants for homeowners with non-working heating systems—furnaces, boilers, electric heat kits or heat pumps—who live in the city and make 50% or less of the Area Median Income.   • Fort Wayne and surrounding Ohio communities have committed $650K to develop a rail corridor connecting Chicago and Pittsburgh—this investment from the Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission, City of Fort Wayne, and Southwestern Pennsylvania Commission will support route and station planning for improved regional connectivity and future economic growth.  WFFT-TV
  • State Sen. Justin Busch announced that a one-mile section of State Road 114 has been renamed the Capt. Matthew Tomkiewicz Memorial Mile — his family and local community attended the ceremony to honor the fallen Marine’s service. Capt.   • Mayor Sharon Tucker—residents and business owners celebrated the completed Fairfax Avenue Reconstruction Project in Mount Vernon Park, which replaced a chip and seal road with asphalt and added ADA curb ramps, sidewalks, lighting, and storm inlets.
