- ➤ The historic cornerstone at the Allen County Courthouse is repaired after being hit with a sledgehammer over a year and a half ago, and officials will rededicate it today at 10 a.m. on the northeast side of the courthouse where it faces East Main Street and the Rousseau Centre. A Chicago firm fixed the stone under an $83,350 contract approved in November 2024. The Journal Gazette
- ➤ Huntertown Family Park at 2302 Woods Road will host Halloween at the Park on Oct. 24 and Oct. 25 from 6-9 p.m. The event features a new Night Market, a costume contest with roaming judges and gift card donations from local businesses & vendors, the Treat Trail, a pumpkin contest, kids games and a Forest of Fear fundraiser supporting a local ministry & the park. - ➤ On Monday, the Do it Best Foundation gave over $100,000 in grants to local groups including Arts United + $50,000, Christ Child Society + $5,000, and Christian Community Health Care + $10,000 in Fort Wayne. The foundation has given over $2 million in six years and is accepting grant applications until Nov. 7. 21Alive
- ➤ The Fort Wayne Zoo mourned the loss of 15-year-old Naya the dingo on Sunday — she served as a long-time ambassador in the Australian Adventure since her 2010 arrival. Naya made zoo history when she and her mate Mattie welcomed the zoo's second-ever dingo litter in 2012. 21Alive

- ➤ Fort Wayne Community Schools will pay beginning teachers a minimum of $50,000 under a tentative two-year contract that boosts salaries by nearly 6.5% and includes daily prep time compensation. The board will ratify the contract on Oct. 27, and officials expect the new salary range to be $50,000—$83,547 to remain competitive with local districts. The Journal Gazette

- ➤ Brightpoint received a $100k Special Opportunity Grant from the Foellinger Foundation to support its Community Loan Center that offers affordable loans to local workers so they can avoid high interest payday loans— the grant will build a loan loss reserve to allow up to $1 million in lending for families facing unexpected expenses. - ➤ A federal shutdown is putting pressure on Indiana's WIC and SNAP programs as funds may run out in the coming days, forcing the state to use its own money to keep benefits for over 157000 Hoosiers intact.
