COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Fort Wayne Police Department announced that trick-or-treating will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on October 31 and residents are urged to follow safety guidelines.  WFFT-TV
  • Fort Wayne Police Department announced that Trick-or-Treat hours on Oct. 31 will run from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. — other Halloween attractions will keep the city festive.  21Alive
  • On October 8, the WOWO Fire Drill took place at Career Academy on Barr Street as part of National Fire Prevention Week—about a dozen firefighting students and local firefighters worked together to evacuate 720 students in three minutes. The drill showed future firefighters training with real-life techniques and highlighted safe practices for handling lithium-ion batteries at home.  WOWO
  • The Brickworld expo returns to Fort Wayne this weekend and will feature industry exhibits and interactive displays for brick enthusiasts. Organizers say the event runs through Sunday — drawing families to explore creative attractions and celebrate local culture.  21Alive
  • John D. Beatty, Senior Genealogy Librarian at the Allen County Public Library’s Genealogy Center, was elected as a Fellow of the American Society of Genealogists—a milestone that highlights his dedication to family history research since 1984. He thanked colleagues for their support and celebrated his career-long contributions to genealogy.  WFFT-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Christmas on Broadway event will occur on Nov. 21 at Broadway Plaza near Shine and Hardin, and it will feature an engine-powered train—called the Polar Express—that gives children rides with stickers and a 40-foot blue spruce tree lit at 6 p.m. A parade with Santa, Mrs. Claus, a vintage fire truck, food trucks and fireworks will add festive excitement while highlighting the World Baseball Academy charity.  The Journal Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Allen County Highway Department announced that beginning Monday, Oct. 13, Monroeville Road between Clayton and Whittern Roads will be closed for storm sewage installation with work expected to be completed on Oct. 27—this closure is near Heritage Junior/Senior High School and may affect school commutes.  21Alive
  • Allen County Council approved a vote centers plan on Oct. 9th that would let residents vote at over 50 flexible locations instead of one assigned polling place—state approval is still needed.  US 93.3
  • The NAACP environmental and climate justice committee will host a breakfast meeting on AI data centers at 10:30 a.m. on October 24 at the Courtyard by Marriott at the Grand Wayne Center—part of the NAACP Indiana State Convention—and will address community worries about energy use, water, noise, and pollution raised by projects like Google's Project Zodiac.  WFFT-TV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Rohrman Automotive Group donated $77,500 to support pediatric cancer research and treatment across Indiana and Chicagoland—$10,000 went to Kate’s Kart Books from the Heart and $17,500 to Blood Cancer United in Fort Wayne. The funds were raised through a September fundraiser that pledged $50 per new car sold at its 22 dealerships.  WFFT-TV
  • Northwest Allen County Schools said that an employee experienced a medical event at Huntertown Elementary on Thursday morning and is now receiving proper care. Superintendent Wayne Barker said the event was linked to a change in the employee’s medication—he urged the community to stop spreading unverified news to protect privacy.  21Alive
