- ➤ City Council reviewed Mayor Tucker’s 2026 budget this Tuesday evening and noted a $19 million shortfall — officials face tough cuts as reduced state revenue forces careful spending on neighborhood projects. In other business, council members approved Allen County Public Library’s adjusted budget with capped raises after delaying the vote for two weeks. The Journal Gazette
- ➤ A petition with more than 700 signatures is urging Fort Wayne Animal Care and Control to change how it handles wild animals, with supporters saying many are euthanized without evaluation by wildlife vets. Director Amy-Jo Sites said the agency handled 574 intakes and rehabilitated or relocated 181 animals by August 31 — petitioners want more transparency and partnerships with local wildlife experts. - ➤ Due to a government shutdown, Honor Flight Northeast Indiana will relocate today’s 53rd flight departure from the 122nd Fighter Wing Air National Guard Base to American Legion Post 241 on Bluffton Road; 85 veterans will ride buses to Fort Wayne Airport for a morning flight to Washington, D.C. — the welcome home celebration will be held outside the terminal because of airport construction. - ➤ College students and recent graduates can now apply for paid internships with the Indiana House for the upcoming legislative session starting in January and ending in March — the program places interns at the Statehouse in Indianapolis to work in legislative operations, policy, or communications. - ➤ The Fort Wayne Street Department announced its 2025 leaf collection schedule, set to begin on Monday, November 3 with rounds for South neighborhoods on November 3 to 7, North neighborhoods on November 10 to 14, and Central neighborhoods on November 17 to 21, with crews working on Veterans Day but not on Thanksgiving or the following day. City officials said residents must rake leaves to the park strip by 7 a.m. on the first day of collection and check the city website for updates before 3 p.m.—the schedule may change if weather conditions affect service. - ➤ The Fort Wayne Street Department announced a leaf collection schedule for over 400 neighborhoods starting November 3 and running through December 19.
