- ➤ An economic study from Fort Wayne shows that nearly $340 million invested in historic preservation and rehab projects since 2001 has boosted jobs and raised home values. The study shows that heritage tourism drove over $313 million in spending in 2024 — proving that saving the past benefits the current economy. WOWO
- ➤ Today, the electrical training ALLIANCE announced a $400,000 investment from Google.org to expand apprenticeship programs—supporting training at the Electrical Training Institute of Indianapolis, Electrical JATC of Northern Indiana, and the Fort Wayne Electrical JATC with AI-integrated curriculum and capacity for 524 new apprentices by 2030. The funding will help address the shortage of skilled electricians needed for clean energy and advanced infrastructure projects. WOWO
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Thursday's drought monitor update showed southeastern Allen County entered Extreme drought for the first time since 2012, and a cold front is expected next week to bring rain and cooler temperatures—offering a chance to ease the dry conditions. 21Alive
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Lane closures will begin on I-69 on October 6 as INDOT works on concrete patchwork and joint repairs near Brainstrator Road & Coldwater Road. Crews expect to finish the work early next month and drivers are advised to use caution during single lane closures and overnight shutdowns from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. WFFT-TV
- ➤ INDOT is accepting Fiscal Year 2026 applications for its Community Crossings Matching Grant program until 5 p.m. ET on October 31—offering funds to cities, towns, and counties based on population match ratios. Communities will be notified of awards in late 2025. US 93.3
- ➤ Governor Mike Braun said Indiana did not face major impacts from the federal shutdown, noting the state is not as dependent on federal funds, while analysis shows Indiana received 44% of its budget from Washington & only Louisiana and Mississippi were more reliant. He added that the state will get through the shutdown with strong financial management. US 93.3
- ➤ The Indiana Department of Transportation announced that starting Monday from October 6, alternating lane closures will take effect on I-69 between Coldwater and Branstrator Roads in Fort Wayne from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. each night to support concrete patching and joint repairs, and the work is expected to finish by early November weather permitting. 21Alive
