COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Local kids connected with community service providers at a touch-a-truck event where interactive displays offered hands-on learning about vehicles—bringing families together to explore local truck services. The event allowed Fort Wayne residents to see and experience the equipment firsthand.  21Alive

CULTURE NEWS

  • Art This Way announced that muralists Brandon Coley, Natalie Fetzer, Carly Mitchell, Mitchell Egly and Jon Mendelson will install new murals on 222 Pearl Street's cinderblock walls in downtown Fort Wayne, leaving the historic brick untouched. The project, which celebrates music and Fort Wayne’s growing reputation as a music city, will be dedicated today from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.—bringing vibrant local art to the streets—with support from the City's Façade Grant Program and partners.  US 93.3
  • ACPL’s Genealogy Center is hosting free Family History Month programs this October at the main library downtown—events include Chasing Ghosts the Story of the Ghost Army, Transform Your Activity Calendar and Really Stand Out with Innovative Tools for Eldercare, and Making the Records Talk.  WOWO

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Residents are invited today at 1:45 p.m. at the Embassy Theatre to hear Donovan Rypkema present a study showing that heritage tourism in 2024 generated over $313.7 million in spending and supported more than 3,300 jobs in Fort Wayne. The free event is part of the Indiana State Historic Preservation conference, running from September 30 to October 3 — a key look into preserving the city’s future and past.  US 93.3

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A grassroots campaign led by Americans for Prosperity-Indiana and local residents is opposing the Nov. 4 referendum by Northwest Allen County Schools which would allow the district to collect up to $12 million yearly over eight years by raising property taxes to fund staffing initiatives. The measure is expected to increase median home taxes by about $505 per year—adding concerns that the plan will burden families already struggling.  The Journal Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A dash cam video from the Allen County Sheriff's Department showed Corporal Spahiev—an officer who helped move a stalled car off the road—as locals joined his efforts to clear the roadway.  WFFT-TV
  • Secretary of Commerce David Adams remains both CEO and president of the Economic Development Corp even as lawmakers required the roles be split; his office will appoint a separate president by the end of October following a report on the agency. Lawmakers designed the new structure to let each leader focus on specific duties under the updated economic development law.  WFFT-TV
  • In Commissioner’s Corner, TRAA announced it will soon end its dispatch assistance outside Fort Wayne, a change that may force local agencies to adjust (new protocols) for emergency communications. Local officials say the move could impact surrounding communities as they plan for continued public safety services.  WOWO

  • Carroll's volleyball team beat NorthWood 3-0 on Tuesday—maintaining a 24-0 record while NorthWood dropped to 11-10.  WFFT-TV
  • Fort Wayne FC announced that manager Mike Avery will lead the club in its inaugural USL League 1 campaign in 2026. He remains the only manager in the five-year history of Fort Wayne FC — a role he continues as he enters his sixth season.  WFFT-TV
  • The Detroit Tigers defeated the Cleveland Guardians 2-1 on Tuesday — North Side alum Zack McKinstry hit a game-winning RBI with a sacrifice bunt in the 7th inning of Game 1 in the best-of-3 Wild Card series.  WFFT-TV
