COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Amazing Fall Fun Corn Maze and Pumpkin Patch in Fort Wayne is now open and will run until early November—giving locals a chance to enjoy traditional fall activities and seasonal fun.  21Alive
  • Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation announced that the Water Rill at Promenade Park will close for the season on September 29. Splash pads at Buckner, Brewer, Franklin School, Kreager, McCormick, Memorial, Robert E. Meyers, Shoaff and Waynedale will remain open until October 5 — most run from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., with Robert E. Meyers closing at 5:00 p.m. on weekdays.  WFFT-TV
  • Recent rainfall has brought the river levels back to normal, and Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation announced that the Sweet Breeze Canal Boat will resume operations today at Promenade Park's south dock — private tours start today and history tours will run until October 12.  WOWO
  • The Allen County Public Library invites community members to offer feedback on Phase 1 of its Facilities Master Plan for its six branches including Shawnee, New Haven, Aboite, Hessen Cassel, Georgetown, and Dupont during a series of drop-in listening sessions. Meetings will be held on set dates starting Sept. 24 with designated hours and self-serve engagement boards available—details follow at each branch.  21Alive

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Bubba's 33 will open on November 17 at the former Chili's location on 317 E Coliseum Blvd and will offer a family-friendly menu with pizza, burgers, wings, and lasagna. The restaurant will operate Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to midnight & is hiring 200 people for full-time and part-time positions.  21Alive
  • Google's Fort Wayne data center plans to add 179 diesel generators to boost backup power—nearly five times its current number. Environmental advocates say the proposal filed by Hatchworks LLC could worsen air quality and increase emissions while no decision has been made yet.  WOWO
  • Fort Wayne music retailer Sweetwater was named 12th on the Global Top 100 Inspiring Workplace list for 2025 and earned recognition for its efforts in employee wellbeing and inclusion — its first global honor. It also ranked ninth in North America and fourth among large businesses, with CEO Mike Clem praising the company’s commitment to caring for its employees.  WFFT-TV

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in Indiana dropped 10.8 cents in one week to an average of $3.03 per gallon—making them lower than Illinois, where prices average $3.37 per gallon according to GasBuddy. The cheapest station charged $2.64 while the highest was $3.89—showing a range in prices across the state.  WFFT-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Fort Wayne Community Schools will adjust its $419 million spending plan as the new property tax law cuts nearly $11 million in local revenue and forces the district to fund $2 million for buses+ $7 million for capital projects through a general obligation bond. A public hearing will be held on Oct. 13 and the board is expected to adopt the budget on Oct. 27.  The Journal Gazette

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Google received approval from the Indiana Department of Environmental Management to fill 2.5 acres of wetlands for its Project Zodiac—a 700-acre data center—in Allen County, and the company will offset the impact by purchasing credits from the Openings Mitigation Bank.  WFFT-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Fort Wayne officials and a local fire union ended mediation efforts for a new collective bargaining agreement today—both sides stayed firm in talks that began in June. Mayor Sharon Tucker said the city will likely move to non-binding arbitration to resolve the dispute while keeping public safety a top priority.  The Journal Gazette
  • Mayor Sharon Tucker and Fort Wayne Fire Department leadership said mediation for a new contract ended yesterday as the city and union could not agree on sick time for off-duty injuries and union president pay— the city will now move to non-binding arbitration to try to resolve the disputes.  WOWO
