COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Senior Information Fair returned to Fort Wayne Thursday to offer local seniors essential resource information and assistance.  21Alive
  • A free family event will be held at Texas Roadhouse on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Fort Wayne to support Blessings in a Backpack; the event will feature a 50/50 raffle, silent auction, bread-eating contest, games, and music (10% of food sales and collected nonperishable items will benefit the nonprofit).  21Alive
  • Humane Fort Wayne has opened registration for its first annual Love Lives On Pet Tribute Walk—set for October 5th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.—which will begin at the Sharon Bodenhafer Critter Center at 901 Leesburg Road and continue through Lindenwood as participants honor their pets with tributes at a new memorial sculpture.  US 93.3

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Manchester University will honor distinguished alumni and athletes during its Alumni Honor Awards and Athletics Hall of Fame induction on Oct. 11 during Homecoming weekend+the event will begin with a reception at 5 p.m. and a dinner and program at 6 p.m.+RSVPs are due by Oct. 1.  WOWO
  • The Allen County Public Library launched the 'Cultural Connection' website last Thursday to offer digital resources and programs for non-English speakers during Welcoming Week — it supports learning materials in 12 languages including Arabic, Burmese, Chinese, English, French, German, Karen, Korean, Russian, Spanish, Tagalog, and Vietnamese — to help reduce social and cultural barriers.  21Alive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Fort Wayne will host the No Kings protest on October 18 at the Allen County Courthouse from 2 to 5 p.m.—the event is part of a nationwide series of demonstrations against authoritarian leadership that first took place on June 14, and local organizers say it will reclaim democratic institutions while highlighting concerning government trends.  21Alive
  • On Thursday, Fort Wayne Mayor Sharon Tucker and city officials celebrated the completion of the Parnell Avenue rehabilitation project at a ribbon-cutting ceremony that repaired the bridge deck and upgraded sidewalks — a $2.68 million investment to enhance public safety. Nearby business owners and residents attended the event, showing support for the city's effort to maintain reliable infrastructure.  21Alive

HEALTH NEWS

  • Lawmakers planned to start work requirements for Medicaid beneficiaries next summer but must now delay them until 2027—state officials are still waiting on federal guidance for other parts of the health care plan.  The Journal Gazette
  • A law firm is investigating health issues affecting Snider football players. The inquiry will examine if the players experienced harmful conditions during practice or games—official details remain scarce.  WOWO

SPORTS NEWS

  • Fort Wayne TinCaps pitchers Miguel Mendez and Garrett Hawkins were named 2025 High-A Midwest League All-Stars — the first time two TinCaps pitchers earned postseason honors since the team moved to High-A in 2021. Mendez posted a 1.32 ERA in 63 1/3 innings while Hawkins set a franchise record with 38 consecutive scoreless innings before his promotion to Double-A.  US 93.3
  • Fort Wayne native Dyllan Floyd completed the 2025 Ironman World Championship in Nice, France after two years of disciplined training that included swimming, biking, and running up to 20 hours a week — his finish proved his determination and endurance.  21Alive
