EDUCATION NEWS

  • Fort Wayne Tech is celebrating Women IN Tech Week 2025 this week to spotlight achievements and growth for women in technology—organizers say the week will feature workshops and panel discussions to boost skills and new careers.  21Alive
  • Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation applauded local students from the School Children’s Flower and Vegetable Association for their work at the Blue Ribbon Show on September 13 at the McMillen Community Center+ more than 15,000 plants and 2,300 seed packets were distributed as part of the Grow It! program. The program will rebrand as the Grow It! School Plant Program in 2026 to honor its 99-year legacy while preparing for a fresh future.  US 93.3

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Fort Wayne’s Parks and Recreation and Community Development Divisions were honored at the INASLA Awards for the Riverfront Phase IIA Plan—a project that turned a former industrial site into an inclusive park along the St. Marys River. The plan included bioswales, riparian buffers, and 23 new trees to boost biodiversity and improve stormwater management.  US 93.3

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Allen County Election Board approved a new vote center plan for the 2026 midterm elections—this plan increases voting locations across the county but is limited to 53 sites by the budget; data from the midterms will guide improvements ahead of the 2027 municipal elections.  WFFT-TV
  • Allen County emergency officials warned residents today to take extra care with recreational fires amid ongoing dry conditions—advising that fires be kept small, contained, and supervised to avoid accidental blazes and potential fines.  WOWO
  • Drivers in New Haven will have to find alternate routes as the railroad crossings at Hartzell Road and Main Street are closed from Monday, September 22 through Saturday, September 27—Norfolk Southern crews will complete paving work during this time.  WOWO
  • Whitley County Commissioners voted 2—1 to deny a request to change zoning near the Dunfee area, keeping land set for homes and farming and easing worries about new animal operations.  WFFT-TV
  • PFW will hold Military Appreciation Day from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the Science Mall on Thursday while the Sweet Breeze Canal Boat now docks at Headwaters Park West Dock beginning with today's tour due to low river levels. Hoosiers for Good Government named its 2026 leadership class with nine community leaders from Allen, Huntington, Noble and Wabash counties—each set to gain skills in local governance.  The Journal Gazette
