  • Today Honor Flight Northeast Indiana takes 85 veterans from multiple wars on its 52nd trip to Washington D.C. to visit memorials honoring their service— a Welcome Home celebration will begin at 10:00 p.m. at Fort Wayne International Airport.  US 93.3

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Monday afternoon, a man in a pickup truck died at the scene when his vehicle left the shoulder of East Ferguson Road and struck an SUV at the intersection with Muldoon roads, and a passenger in the SUV was seriously injured as authorities investigated the crash.  WOWO
  • On September 8th, the Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a house fire on the 5400 block of Cloverbrook Drive and controlled the blaze in about 5 minutes, with occupants having evacuated safely—minor water and fire damage to the kitchen and moderate smoke damage led to an ongoing investigation.  Around Fort Wayne

  • Attorneys for Fort Wayne and three FWPD officers submitted a formal response to a wrongful death lawsuit filed by Patricia Hepworth’s son over her January shooting and denied claims that the officers skipped warnings or withheld life-saving measures — stating that Hepworth’s own actions contributed to her death.  21Alive

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo celebrated its first-ever wattled crane chick that hatched on Aug.29 from parents Starling and Hannibal—zoo officials said the young bird is already foraging near the African Journey exhibit where visitors might see it. The achievement supports the zoo’s efforts to help preserve this vulnerable species.  WOWO

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Fort Wayne Community Schools plans to borrow $64.1 million to cover needs like new buses, roof replacements, and building renovations and will raise its debt service tax rate from 30.28 to 37.28 cents per $100 of assessed value. The district will hold a public hearing on Sept.22 at the Grile Administrative Center, and construction will begin in May to finish by October 2028—financed mainly through first mortgage and general obligation bonds.  The Journal Gazette
  • An Indianapolis law firm is investigating complaints against Snider High School after 19 student athletes were hospitalized following a football practice and scrimmage on Aug. 9 in extreme heat—parents of affected players are urged to contact the firm if they have details on forced training in full gear without proper breaks, shade or water.  21Alive

  • Mayor Sharon Tucker announced that her Youth Engagement Council will hold a free Youth Violence Prevention Forum on Saturday, September 27 at Foellinger Theatre to engage young residents in discussing strategies to reduce violence. The forum will feature youth-led talks with community leaders and local vendors providing food—aiming to empower youth to shape safer futures.  US 93.3
  • Today, Engle Road is closed between Ardmore Avenue and Bluffton Road at the railroad tracks for emergency repairs by Norfolk Southern and a detour using Ardmore Avenue, Nuttman Avenue, Brooklyn Avenue (and Bluffton Road) guides traffic until the road reopens on Sept 17.  Around Fort Wayne

  • On September 9, Parkview Health opened its free DNA Insights program to community members 18 or older with a MyChart account – letting participants fill out an online consent form and have a simple blood draw at a Parkview lab.
