- ➤ Nolan Erdei, a Fort Wayne resident, represented the local Down syndrome community in New York City by having his photo appear on the Times Square screens during the National Down Syndrome Society’s annual video presentation on Saturday. The one-hour video featured over 500 images from around the world — his image was chosen from more than 2,600 entries to highlight individuals with Down syndrome. 21Alive
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ On Saturday, a balloon release was held at April’s Garden near Hoagland and Masterson to honor April Tinsley after her killer, John D. Miller, died earlier this week at 66—family members said the event kept her memory alive. 21Alive
- ➤ Jermard Lewis, age 32, was found guilty after three days in court for fatally stabbing Waynedale Kroger worker Perla Lieto in December 2023—he admitted to the attack and will be sentenced on September 23 after facing 45 to 65 years in prison. WOWO
- ➤ Fort Wayne business owner Travis Tribolet Ward was attacked in his store Fae’s Cabinet on Friday near 5:45 p.m.—the nearly 15-minute assault involved hateful remarks on his character and religion and ended when a neighbor intervened and police responded by 6:15 p.m. 21Alive

- ➤ Mandee Mikulski—who loved Science Central as a child—took over as executive director on August 18th and will work with local community members to develop a strategic plan that adds new STEAM exhibits and a museum planetarium set to open later this year. WFFT-TV
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ New Haven High School added new spectator safety rules for home football games on September 6—only high school students with valid IDs from either team were allowed entry. The rules required students to remain in designated areas while those not in high school needed to be supervised by an adult throughout the game. WOWO
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Indiana Citizen sued the secretary of state and attorney general after an October 2024 request for full access to a list of more than 585,000 registered voters—information used to verify citizenship—was declined. The lawsuit challenges the limited in-person review and handwritten transcription offer, and it remains unresolved. WFFT-TV
