- ➤ The Lighthouse has partnered with Fort Wayne International Airport to offer free books for travelers near the airline gate area—featuring adult fiction, children’s, and young adult titles. The program uses extra books from community donations and invites further contributions at 6230 Lima Rd during business hours. US 93.3
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ On August 23, Indiana State Police Fort Wayne officers conducted a wolfpack patrol in Allen County that issued 79 tickets, arrested three for OWI and seven for drugs, stopped three unlicensed drivers and three with suspended licenses (and arrested one on a warrant) to keep roads safer. US 93.3
- ➤ A 17-year-old Fort Wayne boy pleaded guilty to assisting a criminal in a March shooting that killed a 16-year-old—his plea drops the murder and robbery charges with sentencing set for October 24. 21Alive
- ➤ A 36-year-old Fort Wayne man, Corey Wickline, who pleaded guilty to sex crimes in 2020, is wanted after police reported he cut off his ankle monitor last week and found it with a severed strap along Fishing Line Trail — authorities issued a warrant for his arrest. 21Alive
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Mayor Sharon Tucker led two major initiatives approved tonight by City Council to invest over $8.6 million from local tax funds in neighborhood projects. The funds will pay for street, sidewalk and alley improvements, park upgrades, LED lighting and public safety enhancements—including $125,000 in microgrants to help curb teen violence with applications opening today at 8 a.m. WOWO
- ➤ The Fort Wayne City Council approved an amended grant of $125,000 for Mayor Tucker’s Youth Violence Prevention Program by a 7-0 vote Tuesday evening—local groups can apply for grants up to $10,000 starting at 8 a.m. and may see additional funds if the pilot proves successful. 21Alive
- ➤ Councilmen Russell Jehl and Scott Myers expressed concern that growing encampments are making people fearful and stalling downtown progress in Fort Wayne — they urged Mayor Sharon Tucker and city officials to form a task force to review legal options and secure public funding for balanced solutions.
