ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On August 20th, deputies responded to a fatal crash on the 7400 block of Milan Center Road when a motorcyclist (wearing a helmet) lost control, hit a mailbox and trees, and died despite bystander CPR.  US 93.3

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Griffin Claw Brewing Company has partnered with Indiana Beverage to bring its award-winning beers and ciders to 24 counties in northern Indiana — including Fort Wayne, South Bend, Gary, Merrillville and Valparaiso. The move will soon give local drinkers access to Griffin Claw’s offerings in bars, restaurants and stores.  WFFT-TV

CRIME NEWS

  • A Fort Wayne man, Davonte Grant, 28, was charged Thursday with two counts of attempted murder and one count of felony criminal recklessness after he reportedly shot at his ex-girlfriend’s car at a southeast gas station on July 23—he allegedly admitted to the shooting when questioned by police.  21Alive

CULTURE NEWS

  • Science Central was honored by the Center for Interactive Learning and Collaboration as a Pinnacle Award winner for its outstanding live virtual programs — marking its fourth win in this annual evaluation. The award recognizes top-tier ratings in engaging virtual educational content.  US 93.3

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The Fort Wayne metro area has seen a drop in the jobless rate as new numbers from the Indiana Department of Workforce Development show it fell to 3.9% in July from 5.6% last summer. The change means nearly 4,000 more people are working in Allen County and nearby areas — a sign of a stronger regional job market.  WOWO

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Two Purdue Fort Wayne language professors have been awarded a UNESCO Chair on Rights Education among Indigenous and Non-Dominant Language Communities—an honor that is the first for the state. They will use the recognition to support language preservation and educational programs like English Language Partners.  The Journal Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Fort Wayne’s Community Development Division released a new searchable map that shows temperature and air quality data collected last summer by 40 volunteers and sensors; the map is part of a federal Urban Heat Island mapping initiative — supported by NOAA and local sponsors — that helps local groups plan for extreme heat risks. The data and map are now available on Engage Fort Wayne.  US 93.3
  • The westbound lane of Rothman Road between Wheelock and Balaton Cove is closed today and will be closed on August 23 for a private development project—flaggers will guide drivers through the work zone.  WFFT-TV

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Fort Wayne Mayor Sharon Tucker joined developer Jerry Starks on August 21 to break ground on Phase II of Roosevelt Reserves— the first major single-family housing project in southeast Fort Wayne in 50 years. The 126-acre subdivision at Tillman and Hessen Cassel roads has already attracted over $5 million in private investment and will add 30 new lots.  WOWO
