COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Community Harvest Food Bank in Fort Wayne has received a $10,000 grant from Norfolk Southern through its Thriving Communities Grant Program to support hunger relief across multiple counties. The grant will provide over 40,000 meals for families — a boost for community resilience.  WOWO
  • The Ten Point Coalition returned to Fort Wayne today to fight local violence and build stronger community ties. Organizers said the group will host events and discussions—an effort to boost neighborhood safety and engagement.  WOWO

CRIME NEWS

  • Authorities are searching for 11‐year‐old Drayden Sayers—last seen near the intersection of Winter Street and Paulding Road wearing a black and green shirt and green shorts—and anyone with information is urged to call 911.  WFFT-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Fort Wayne Urban League started its Painted Sneakers on Tour to help pay for the Equality for All SneakerBall set for September 6 at 6:30 p.m. Local artists David McClung and Ron Lewis painted Air Force Ones that have shown up at McMillan Park, Northeast Indiana Innovation Center, MLK Bridge, and Pontiac Grocery Store — and people can follow them on social media until September 5.  US 93.3

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Allen County Public Library reached a milestone by mailing over 50,000 books from Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library to young children in Allen County since October 2024. As of August, 7,739 children have received a monthly book—representing 29% of eligible children—while funding comes from local donations and a statewide private campaign led by First Lady Maureen Braun.  US 93.3

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Local and regional muralists will paint storm drains through August 24 with the Clean Drains Fort Wayne project — sponsored by Art This Way and City Utilities — as they work to protect our rivers and invite residents to join cleanup efforts.  US 93.3

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The city warned motorists that road work beginning Monday affected travel in Fort Wayne—utility work on Fairfield Avenue restricted a northbound lane until Wednesday, sidewalk repairs on Ewing Street closed a southbound lane until Friday, and gas utility work on East State Boulevard was completed Monday.  US 93.3
  • The City of Fort Wayne announced its Build Entrepreneur Education program will offer an eight week Spanish language cohort for entrepreneurs from October 1 to November 19 at the Urban Enterprise Association — 1830 Wayne Trace. The course teaches skills such as licensing, financial literacy, marketing and cash flow for $175 and requires registration by September 25.  US 93.3
  • The City of Fort Wayne reported it had reached the halfway point of its 10-year Southeast Strategy when it completed repaving two miles of Calhoun Street and rebuilding a streetscape on South Anthony Boulevard last week—projects driven by community feedback and part of a plan that will address more improvements in the next five years. City officials said the initiative already impacted 11 southeast neighborhoods with new housing, jobs, and park investments.  21Alive

  • Bridge of Grace Ministries helps residents in Southeast Fort Wayne break the cycle of poverty by renovating homes and guiding eligible applicants to homeownership; the organization renovated 36 homes since 2016 and handed keys to Yessica Michell Loaiza today. It plans to build eight triplexes and renovate 100 homes in Mount Vernon Park — steps that are part of its 10-year plan to provide 150 homes — while fundraising for additional projects.  WFFT-TV
