  • Fort Wayne teens completed the TeenWorks summer program by working six weeks at paying jobs with ten local nonprofits as featured in FOX 55’s 'Kids Who Care.' Students celebrated their work at a Taste of TeenWorks dinner in August and some will continue as TeenWorks Pros during the school year.  WFFT-TV

CRIME NEWS

  • Fort Wayne police arrested Joseph Bossard in connection with the triple homicide on the 1900 block of Hobson Road, and he now faces charges including two counts of murder—Felony Level 1 and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.  Around Fort Wayne
  • A 63-year-old Fort Wayne man, Raphael Helton, has been charged with murder for the 2015 death of his 67-year-old roommate Michael Fedock — his body was found locked in a closet wrapped in plastic — and evidence — including DNA on duct tape and jail call recordings — ties him to the case.  21Alive
  • On Saturday, Fort Wayne police responded to a domestic battery call at an apartment on the 9300 block of Morning Light Trail and discovered two adults dead + the Allen County Coroner ruled the deaths a homicide-suicide with Rickita Lanae Washington, 38, dying from a gunshot wound in a homicide and Odie Lionel Sanders, 46, dying from a self-inflicted gunshot.  The Journal Gazette

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Indiana Tech is adding six new certificates after being awarded nearly $1M in Workforce Ready Grant funding that will cover full tuition for eligible residents in fields such as business, health sciences and information technology. This brings its approved programs to 19 to meet the growing demand for skills in analytics, AI and public safety.  21Alive
  • The 2025 Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship application is now open in Allen County through the Community Foundation of Greater Fort Wayne and offers five scholarships that cover full tuition, fees, and up to $900 per year for books over four years. Applications are due by September 9 at 11:59 p.m.—guidance counselors must submit their portions by September 12 with winners announced in December.  WOWO

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Allen County Commissioners approved zoning changes that increased the required setback for commercial solar farms from 250 to 1000 feet from property lines—this measure is designed to protect rural land quality. Commissioner Turpin said the new rule—applicable only to large-scale projects—does not restrict residential solar panel installations.  WOWO
  • Tomorrow night, Fort Wayne City Council will consider three proposed rate hikes and two revenue bond requests from City Utilities—one council member opposes the proposals because they lost faith in the department's leadership and said changes must come first.  WOWO
