EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Fort Wayne Community Schools board voted on Monday to spend $524,144 this year to continue the school resource officer program with city police at eight middle schools and their feeder elementary schools — funded by property taxes. The board also approved spending about $170,700 for ticketing, concessions and storage sheds at nine middle schools — and it honored its communication team with national awards.  The Journal Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Fort Wayne City Councilman Russell Jehl said he will vote against proposed utility rate increases if approved in tomorrow evening’s meeting — he criticized City Utilities leadership for losing focus on serving local ratepayers. Jehl warned that he cannot support the increases until management addresses issues with customer service and communication.  Around Fort Wayne
  • In Fort Wayne, Rep. Bob Morris explained that redistricting is normally done every 10 years after the census but some lawmakers have discussed doing it sooner if Governor Braun calls a special meeting. He said many representatives will wait to see how the issue unfolds over the next few months.  WOWO
  • Fort Wayne City Utilities replaced lead water pipes in over 300 homes on Monday afternoon in the East Side and Harvester neighborhoods near downtown. The project was free for residents—funded by federal and state dollars—and crews will replace pipes in Hamilton, Oxford and Bloomingdale in a 10- to 15-year plan to ensure safe water.  21Alive
  • INDOT announced that starting today crews will close the ramp from southbound Interstate 69 to State Road 14/Illinois Road exit 305 for concrete patching and joint repair, with work expected to last one week and be weather-dependent. Drivers needing access to State Road 14/Illinois Road should use U.S. 24/Jefferson Boulevard exit 302 and turn north on Interstate 69 to reach their destination.  US 93.3
