  • The community gathered on Saturday at Blue Lake Community Center in Churubusco to benefit 1-year-old Kyler Rupright who battles Alpers-Huttenlocher Syndrome. Kyler was diagnosed in February and his mom is seeking compassionate use of a drug on trial in Canada to slow the disease—with funds raised used for his medical care and future treatment costs.  21Alive
  • Local veterans received support yesterday at American Legion Post 148 during a luncheon that offered help with benefits enrollment, ID cards, and homelessness services. A clothing giveaway at the post provided essential items—connecting veterans to needed resources.  WOWO

CRIME NEWS

  • Two people were found dead from gunshot wounds on Saturday morning in the 9300 block of Morning Light Trail after officers responded to a domestic battery report—investigators are still looking into the case.  The Journal Gazette
  • A mother in Fort Wayne is suing the city and two police officers—including Officer Mark Guzman and a former chief—for federal civil rights violations, unreasonable seizure, assault, and wrongful death after her 20-year-old daughter was fatally shot in November 2023 when she ran toward her car to escape an alleged attack, and she is demanding a trial by jury.  WOWO

CULTURE NEWS

  • Fiesta Fort Wayne will be held on August 23 at Headwaters Park Lincoln Pavilion to honor the contributions of the Hispanic and Latino communities. The event will run from 11:00 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. and feature folkloric dancers, live music, local foods, and family activities + admission is $7 with free entry for children under 10.  Around Fort Wayne

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Saturday, Bishop Luers High School held its annual Walk of the Knights as over 150 students and staff marched from campus to the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception with a police escort—then a school chaplain led a Holy Rosary and blessing that demonstrated the school’s Catholic spirit.  21Alive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Allen County Election Board will hold meetings on August 15 at 9:00 a.m. and September 15 at 9:00 a.m. to discuss Vote Centers. Both meetings will be held at Citizens Square at 200 East Berry Street (room 030 on the Garden Level).  Around Fort Wayne
  • The Indiana Black Legislative Caucus held a town hall in Fort Wayne at the Allen County Public Library from 12 to 2 p.m. Saturday, where members discussed bills passed during the 2025 session and took questions for ideas for the 2026 session + future town halls are planned for Aug. 23 in Terre Haute, Sept. 13 in South Bend, and Sept. 20 in East Chicago.  21Alive
