  • Vincent Village broke ground on a $12 million shelter for homeless families on August 6th. The project+ which will build needed housing and services for local families is set to continue construction through this year.  21Alive

CRIME NEWS

  • Police are investigating a deadly shooting on Lakeridge Drive at around 2 a.m. on August 6—an incident that left an adult male fatally wounded at a local trauma hospital while 25-year-old Alaye Hanson was arrested and now faces preliminary murder charges.  WFFT-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Summit City Climbing Co. dropped off over $10,000 in school supplies, including pens from Bargain Lane, to FWCS on Wednesday ahead of the first day of the 2025-26 school year, and the donation drive aimed to ease teachers' supply costs.  21Alive
  • Dr. Josh St. John took over as superintendent for Southwest Allen County Schools on July 1 after a March approval and nearly 20 years of work in the district as a teacher, principal, and athletic director. He is launching a two-year strategic plan focused on academics, talent retention, and mental health — and he is planning a new career and technical education facility near Covington Elementary to open by the 2027-28 school year.  21Alive

  • On Tuesday, August 5, Mayor Tucker announced a plan to use $12.591 million in state tax funds for neighborhood sidewalks, playgrounds, alley improvements and public safety measures—City Council will review the proposal on Tuesday, August 12.  US 93.3
