  • Officials announced that Vincent Village will break ground next week at 10 a.m. for an $18 million transitional shelter at 2827 Holton Ave on Fort Wayne’s south side—construction will finish in 12 months to serve homeless families while services continue without interruption.  The Journal Gazette

CRIME NEWS

  • On July 29 at 2:00 p.m., Fort Wayne Police Department served three search warrants at Buell Drive, Berry Street, and Bridlewood Drive, arresting Trevel Shantae Bell for allegedly buying or possessing an animal for fighting—an investigation that lasted nearly six months and led to the seizure of 22 dogs and related items.  Around Fort Wayne

  • On July 24, Senator Jim Banks introduced the Revitalizing Empty Structures Into Desirable Environments Act, a bill that will use HOME funds to repurpose vacant buildings into affordable single family and multifamily homes. Fort Wayne Mayor Sharon Tucker and other mayors praised the pilot program as a cost-neutral solution to address the housing shortage, with the plan set to begin in 2026.  Greater Fort Wayne Business Weekly
  • Senators Jim Banks and Mark Warner introduced the RESIDE Act to let cities apply for a grant of $1 million to $10 million for turning empty spaces into affordable housing — the bill would expand eligibility to households at up to 120% of area median income and must pass both chambers to become law.  WFFT-TV
