CRIME NEWS

  • Fort Wayne police arrested 31-year-old Kierra Chapman at 2:43 p.m. on July 25 for leaving the scene of a fatal accident from April 4 that killed 17-year-old Samayah Barker + charged her with one count of leaving the scene of an accident-causing death and three counts of leaving the scene of an accident-causing bodily injury.  Around Fort Wayne
  • On July 24, a 25-year-old Fort Wayne man was charged with murder after admitting to fatally stabbing a man during an argument at an apartment on the 2700 block of Stardale Drive — where neighbors later reported seeing him covered in blood with a bloody kitchen knife — police said.  21Alive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Mayor Tucker will host a community discussion on youth violence from 6–7:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 30 at the Allen County Public Library Main Branch in downtown Fort Wayne—Police Chief Scott Caudill and community leaders will join the panel while advance registration, limited to 190 guests, is required and the discussion will be recorded for later viewing on City TV.  US 93.3
  • Twenty new firefighters were welcomed to the Fort Wayne Fire Department at a graduation ceremony held Thursday at the Public Safety Academy—three of the graduates came from the Huntington Fire Department. They completed 23 weeks of training and will soon serve at engine houses across the city—boosting the department’s readiness to protect residents.  US 93.3
  • Mayor Sharon Tucker, Parks Director Steve McDaniel and local officials reopened the historic Mechanic Street Bridge on July 24, reconnecting Swinney Park with the Nebraska, Hamilton and North Highlands neighborhoods. The restoration cost 1,277,309.76 dollars and used custom molds and digital scanning to match original design details from when the bridge was built in 1898.  US 93.3
