  • Greater Fort Wayne Inc. was named the 2025 Chamber of the Year by the Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives for its strong work in growing jobs and supporting local businesses + the award confirms the group’s impact on economic growth in Allen County. The honor was announced this week as part of a competitive selection process recognizing its commitment to community success.  US 93.3

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Allen County legislators received appointments to serve on interim study committees that will meet this summer and fall to study policy issues and plan bill recommendations before the next session in January — state reps Martin Carbaugh, Dave Heine, Chris Judy and Bob Morris from Fort Wayne will listen to public and expert input to help guide their work.  WOWO
  • The historic Mechanic Street Bridge reopened on July 24th — restoring a pedestrian link between Swinney Park East and the Nebraska, Hamilton and North Highlands neighborhoods. Mayor Sharon Tucker and Parks Director Steve McDaniel said the detailed repair work on the 1898 Pratt through truss bridge cost $1,277,309.76 in city funds.  WOWO
  • A million-dollar restoration of the 1898 Mechanic Street Bridge was completed Thursday to reconnect Swinney Park with the neighborhoods of Nebraska, Hamilton — and North Highlands. The project cost $1,277,309.76 from Parks Cumulative Capital Funds and used digital scanning with custom molds to repair and match the historic design.  WANE 15
  • Mayor Sharon Tucker will lead a community discussion on youth violence from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 30 at the Allen County Public Library Main Branch, where police chief Scott Caudill, community advocates, and representatives from Foundation One will speak under moderator Andrew Downs — residents must register in advance as attendance is capped at 190 guests.  WFFT-TV
  • Fort Wayne Mayor Sharon Tucker announced she will lead a community discussion next week at the downtown Allen County Public Library branch to address rising youth violence. The forum will admit 190 registered guests and include Police Chief Scott Caudill plus community advocates to review recent incidents and discuss solutions.  The Journal Gazette

HEALTH NEWS

  • Fort Wayne is ranked among the top cities for fitness in the 2025 American Fitness Index — it tied with Plano for the biggest rise in residents meeting aerobic guidelines and placed 77th out of 100 large cities, beating Indianapolis which ranked 92nd. The index shows a 9% increase in aerobic activity and a 7.6% boost in residents meeting both aerobic and strength training goals as local efforts grow.  WFFT-TV
