- ➤ Wellspring now enrolls children in first through eighth grades for its free after-school program at 1316 Broadway while Local Food Week begins Friday with farm tours and events through Aug. 3 and a free health fair with blood-pressure checks is scheduled Saturday. In other news — the Allen County Judicial Nominating Commission named three finalists for a Superior Court vacancy, the St. Joseph Community Health Foundation executive director will retire in December, food banks including Community Harvest received part of a $2 million grant, and the city began painting street lines with paving work planned on Parnell Avenue. - ➤ Fort Wayne Public Works began its annual street line painting program and warned drivers to stay clear of wet paint lines as work crews are active - the city also announced road closures on several streets for the weeks of July 21 and July 28. WANE 15
- ➤ Fort Wayne City Council approved nearly $3 million for the fire department—$436,000 is for a new fire station at 2000 Lower Huntington Road and more than $2.4 million is for a ladder truck replacing a 15-year-old vehicle. Fire Chief Eric Lahey said design negotiations have begun and ground will break later this summer if the budget stays on track as the department expects over 380 firefighters by February.
