COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Fort Wayne Animal Care and Control (FWACC) is partnering with Fido’s Forest to offer a free 'Read to the Animals' night on Monday, August 18 at its (3020 Hillegas Road) location where visitors aged 5 and up will read for 30 minutes with adoptable pets; registrations are required on a first-come, first-served basis with sessions beginning at 4 p.m. and the final slots starting at 6:30 p.m.  21Alive
  • City and community leaders, including Mayor Sharon Tucker, gathered at Parkview Field at 5 p.m. Thursday to fill over 300 Brave Bags with food, hygiene, and care items for children facing abuse, neglect, and trauma (the first 75 bags were loaded onto TRAA ambulances for distribution).  21Alive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Downtown Fort Wayne leaders filed a petition — supported by property owners — to renew the Economic Improvement District for another 10-year term to keep downtown services active. Pending City Council approval this summer, the district will expand its footprint and continue at the current assessment rate, taking effect early 2026 through 2035.  US 93.3

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Allen County Public Library announced that its Memory Station service will now be free for qualifying Medicare users to help dementia patients reconnect with memories through photo reminiscence therapy — the service is enhanced by partners Vivid-Pix, PocketRN, and the National Institute for Dementia Education.  21Alive
  • Positive Resource Connection, a Fort Wayne nonprofit, received a $20K grant on July 16 from the St. Joseph Community Health Foundation to support its HIV and STI services — the funding will help improve access to care for local residents.  WFFT-TV
  • Indiana University Health held a topping out ceremony on July 17 when it completed the vertical structure for its new $421 million hospital in southwest Allen County+ the hospital will open in summer 2027 to provide enhanced care to Fort Wayne residents.  WOWO
