BUSINESS NEWS

  • Yesterday, Powers Hamburgers in downtown Fort Wayne set a new world record by selling 3,287 sliders by 6 p.m. The restaurant built strong morning and afternoon sales—reaching its goal early and keeping its title as the Slider Capitol of the World.  WFFT-TV

CRIME NEWS

  • A 51-year-old former Fort Wayne Wizards pitcher, Daniel Serafini, was found guilty of murdering his father-in-law in a 2021 shooting in North Lake Tahoe—he was also convicted of attempted murder and burglary and will be sentenced on Aug. 18.  WOWO

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • City Utilities and Clean Drains Fort Wayne are urging residents, families, friends, churches, neighbors, and businesses to join the Drain Stormer Brigade+ receive a kit with markers, chalk, gloves and T-shirts to help keep over 20,000 storm drains free of trash and debris that can pollute rivers and cause flooding risk.  21Alive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Fort Wayne City Council backed spending over $1.4 million on the final three-quarter-mile stretch of the Hanna Street Trail from Tillman Park to downtown, and they will vote on the final funding contract next Tuesday. Construction includes an 8-foot-wide ADA-compliant trail and upgrades to traffic signals at four intersections, with the trail expected to be completed by May 15.  The Journal Gazette
  • Fort Wayne Public Works announced that a one-lane traffic pattern will be in effect on Bluffton Road for the second phase of the bridge reconstruction until October — the change is necessary to protect the new deck and will cause significant delays, so drivers are advised to use alternate routes.  US 93.3
  • Today, Fort Wayne begins Phase I of a $12 million Leesburg Road extension project—crews will extend the road from Main Street south to Jefferson Boulevard near Sweet Cars, add a traffic signal for safer turns, and plan a roundabout at Leesburg Road and Main to reduce accidents. City Engineer Patrick Zaharako said the roundabout construction is scheduled for next year and the project is expected to be fully completed in fall next year.  WFFT-TV
  • SEA 306 is now in effect in Indiana to offer tax incentives for filmmakers on projects over $300,000 and help keep local creative talent in the state—Huntington University will apply for the credit as Gov. Mike Braun holds a ceremonial signing today.  WANE 15
  • The Indiana Department of Transportation said a malfunctioning traffic light at Exit 29 on I-469 prevents left turns onto Maplecrest Road today due to an electrical cabinet issue. Drivers will need to find another route + INDOT advised treating any flashing red light as an all-way stop.  WANE 15

HEALTH NEWS

  • Indiana University Health held a topping out ceremony yesterday at its new hospital site near Fort Wayne to mark the completion of the building’s vertical structure at 10101 Ernst Road in Roanoke — a key milestone for the $421 million project. The hospital will have 140 beds and advanced treatment areas and is expected to be finished by summer.  WANE 15
