  • The Fort Wayne Zoo added new attractions for kids and adults this summer that include a cow statue that milks water to show visitors how cows are milked, an expanded nature play area with a dig pit and rock wall, and swan-shaped paddle boats for a 30-minute ride costing $10 per person. The additions were introduced during Zoofari, one of the zoo's biggest fundraisers, and give guests more interactive options.  WANE 15
  • Miss Virginia’s Food Pantry received a $35,000 grant from the St. Joseph Community Health Foundation on July 8 to support its Balanced Nutritional Food Program in Fort Wayne. The funding will distribute about 57,377 pounds of food—serving roughly 7,350 guests in ZIP codes 46803, 46806, and 46816—and help low-income families access healthy meals.  Greater Fort Wayne Business Weekly
  • Festival organizers for Big Fort Fest in Fort Wayne are preparing the inaugural event and are seeking volunteers for Forum — Fork Fest on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, along with concert setup and teardown plus a children's festival on Saturday. ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Just after 10:00 a.m. Monday, a motorcyclist was seriously injured when he collided with a car at Lima Road and Grove Drive—witnesses said the car hit an Allen County Department of Health pickup truck and investigators are looking into the crash.  WOWO

  • An 18-year-old Fort Wayne man accepted a plea agreement Tuesday that dropped attempted murder and criminal recklessness charges from a Waynedale shooting near Maplewood Elementary in exchange for pleading guilty to aggravated battery + he faces 10 years in prison and five years of probation if his sentence is approved later this month +.  21Alive
  • After a Saturday shooting downtown that killed a 16-year-old and injured three others, Fort Wayne City Council urged the community to work with police to reduce youth violence while a 16-year-old faces a murder charge and 18-year-old Ni’Shawn Jackson faces an attempted murder charge.  The Journal Gazette

  • Fort Wayne's Brightpoint Development Fund completed its Community Development Financial Institution recertification through the U.S. Department of the Treasury on July 7 to keep offering affordable financing where banks fall short. The nonprofit—one of the first in Indiana to meet the new guidelines—secured eligibility for Treasury and Community Reinvestment Act funds that recently brought in major investments.  Greater Fort Wayne Business Weekly

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City officials stated that milling and paving work has started today on Fairfield Avenue between Washington Boulevard and West Masterson Avenue — causing daily traffic delays from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. — and advising drivers to seek alternate routes.  Around Fort Wayne
  • INDOT announced that bridge construction will begin on State Road 930 after July 14 in Fort Wayne. Crews will repair bridge joints over Spy Run Creek between Sherman Boulevard and Executive Boulevard for about two weeks — westbound lanes will be closed and the middle turn lane will be converted to a through lane.  WOWO
