CRIME NEWS

  • A late night shooting in southeast Fort Wayne left one person dead and another in critical condition when police responded just before midnight to shots fired at Tillman Park—detectives are asking anyone with information to come forward.  WOWO
  • The Allen County Coroner’s Office on Monday identified 20-year-old Eriyn Brionne White as the victim of a shooting at Tillman Park in Fort Wayne where one person died and another was seriously injured during a large gathering.  21Alive
  • Before midnight on June 23rd, police responded to gunshots at Tillman Park that killed one man and left another with life-threatening injuries — investigators questioned witnesses and gathered evidence while assuring that there was no threat to the public.  US 93.3

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Northwest Allen County Schools plan to borrow nearly $90 million for a new career center, transportation facility and maintenance projects, but few residents offered input at an initial hearing; the board will seek further comments next month (residents are encouraged to email any board member) and may decide on moving forward with the projects (the career center is expected to open for the 2027-28 school year).  The Journal Gazette
  • Governor Mike Braun announced on Tuesday that all 15 Indiana public colleges and universities will keep tuition and fees flat for in-state students for the 2025-2026 and 2026-2027 academic years. This freeze is the first such measure since 2010 and comes after the governor challenged schools to reduce redundancies and streamline services — a move aimed at keeping higher education affordable.  WANE 15
  • A private Fort Wayne foundation pledged $2 million to name part of Trine University's new John and Mary Pellegrino Student Design Center after Steel Dynamics Foundation. Officials said the 22,000-square-foot facility celebrated its groundbreaking in May and will be completed in about 16 months — offering new training spaces for local high school students and residents.  The Journal Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Yesterday, Fort Wayne City Council approved the Northwest 2035 neighborhood plan — covering Bloomingdale, Hamilton, Lincoln Park Five Points, Nebraska and North Highlands — that sets a ten-year roadmap for improvements. Mayor Sharon Tucker will sign the plan as the city works with residents to make local areas safer, more walkable and more connected.  Around Fort Wayne
  • INDOT released final reports for its ProPEL US 30 and US 31 studies that will guide road planning for the next 20 years along two key routes in northern Indiana—public input helped shape many changes in the plans.
