COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The City of Fort Wayne is hosting four free bicycle safety sessions for elementary-aged students this summer—today the session at Buckner Park runs from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Additional sessions on June 25 at McMillen Park, July 21 at Franke Park and July 23 at Shoaff Park will teach safety basics and bike maintenance with guidance from the police bike patrol and Trek Fort Wayne.  WANE 15

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Today, Kilwins Fort Wayne celebrates National Fudge Day as owners Paul and Renee Marinko show off their classic Mackinac Island style process by paddling fudge on a marble table in an open downtown kitchen, using the same pans and copper kettle that have been in use since 1947. The former career educators opened the franchise nearly four years ago & continue to serve rich, creamy fudge that feels like it is straight from Grandma's kitchen.  WANE 15

  • A fatal hit and run crash occurred Saturday near West Paulding Road and Calhoun Street at about 10 p.m.—police are reviewing surveillance video and interviewing witnesses to find the driver.  WOWO

CULTURE NEWS

  • On Saturday, community members gathered at the Fort Wayne History Center for a Flag Day ceremony that launched Allen County's celebration of the United States' 250th year of independence. Leaders said upcoming events include Constitution Week festivities & citywide bell ringing at 4 p.m. on September 17 with a performance by the Aldersgate Church Bell Choir at the Public Library Theater.  21Alive
  • Fort Wayne will host the Annual Greek Fest at Headwaters Park Pavilions starting Thursday, June 19, featuring Greek foods, Greek beer, soft serve Baklava and dancing performances. Admission is free from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday — after 4 p.m., it costs $5 per person with children 12 and military members admitted for free.  WOWO

EDUCATION NEWS

  • More than 20 Fort Wayne high school students attended Indiana Tech’s STEM camp last week — working on electrical, biomedical and mechanical engineering projects in hands-on labs. Camp director Caleb Hunter said the experience built real-world skills that will help the students in college and their future careers.  The Journal Gazette
