  • Multiple school districts and the library in Fort Wayne will offer free summer meals for kids up to 18 until mid-July — details provided by participating organizations — and the program kicks off today at Library Plaza with a family event offering free food, giveaways and activities from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.  WANE 15

CRIME NEWS

  • Dashanae Hamlet-Davis of Fort Wayne pleaded guilty to a federal felony for wire fraud and was sentenced on May 22 to 18 months of probation while ordered to repay $23,431.53 for misusing PPP funds—she used the money for personal items like clothing, jewelry, electronics and a vacation.  Around Fort Wayne

  • The Fort Wayne Museum of Art will host Chalk Walk July 12-13 for its 25th season, inviting artists to use pastels on squares along Main Street—nearly 50,000 visitors are expected and artwork will be judged in several categories.  21Alive

  • Valbruna Slater Stainless announced a $28+million investment to expand its Fort Wayne plant by installing a new remelting furnace plus new peeling and straightening lines along with state-of-the-art testing equipment. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Fort Wayne Community Schools leaders and the Hagerman Group broke ground on a $30M multi-use stadium and athletic facility at Snider High School on Thursday morning at its Fairlawn Pass location off Reed Road, ending the long use of Northrop High School’s Spuller Stadium for football games. The new stadium will seat 4,400 people & feature modern turf and enhanced amenities, with construction set to finish by fall.  21Alive

  • Mayor Sharon Tucker will join a Memorial Day ceremony at 1 p.m. on Monday, May 26 at the Veterans National Memorial Shrine—Museum at 2122 O’Day Road with Rolling Thunder, Inc. The group will unveil a four-foot black granite POW/MIA bench honoring the end of the Vietnam War and the event is open to the public.  US 93.3
  • The capital improvement board conditionally approved $5 million to support building a new aquatic center with a U.S. Olympic Trials pool at the Northwest Allen County School district—pending additional funding and compliance with legal requirements.  The Journal Gazette
