COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Fort Wayne Zoo will open its reimagined Coastal Cove at 10 a.m. Friday, featuring an 88,000-gallon water space plus a larger beach, new shade structures, and upgraded life support systems that enable California sea lions to share a habitat with harbor seals. The zoo will add two more harbor seals to the exhibit next year.  WANE 15
  • United Way of Allen County is calling for volunteers to help with its 34th Annual Day of Caring Event on August 22nd—applications for teams, projects, and sponsors are open through June 20th. The event will bring thousands together to serve local nonprofits, schools, and neighborhoods.  US 93.3

CRIME NEWS

  • On May 20, Ft. Wayne Police Chief Scott Caudill and ATF Special Agent-in-Charge Christopher Amon launched the Northeast Indiana Crime Gun Intelligence Center to fight violent crime, a joint effort involving local police, county sheriffs & federal agents using ballistics and tracing tools to link and investigate gun-related offenses in Northeast Indiana.  Around Fort Wayne
  • A 36-year-old Fort Wayne man was sentenced Wednesday to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to felony neglect charges in connection with his girlfriend’s 4-year-old son’s 2022 death from drug toxicity — court records described the home as unsanitary with trash, decaying food, and drug residue present.  21Alive

EDUCATION NEWS

  • East Allen County Schools will serve free summer meals to all children 18 and under from June 2 to July 18 at three locations in eastern Allen County—New Haven Intermediate School, Prince Chapman Academy, and Heritage Elementary School. Meals will be served on site from 12:15 to 12:45 p.m. except on June 19 and July 4.  21Alive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Fort Wayne will close its offices on Memorial Day—May 26, so there will be no garbage and recycling collection on Monday. Collection will resume at regular business hours Tuesday—May 27.  US 93.3
