CRIME NEWS

  • A Fort Wayne man pleaded guilty but mentally ill to attempted murder Tuesday after he stabbed and beat his then-pregnant girlfriend near Lutheran Hospital, with sentencing deferred to a June 9 hearing at 10 a.m.  The Journal Gazette
  • A 26-year-old Fort Wayne man was arrested in Michigan Monday evening by U.S. Marshals for felony murder tied to the fatal April shooting that killed 23-year-old Kamari Daquan Taylor downtown—authorities said.  21Alive

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Allen County Public Library opened a new StoryScape at Little Turtle Branch today (10:00 a.m.) with a Grand Opening celebration and Toddler Fun program. The early learning space for children ages 7 and younger features a miniature greenhouse, climb-on tractor, and play potting station (2201 Sherman Boulevard) and is free during library hours.  US 93.3

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Fort Wayne earned two awards from the Indiana Chapter of the American Planning Association—one for its Historic Northeast 2035 Neighborhood Plan that guides northeast development and another for its Engage Fort Wayne online platform that helps residents share their ideas.  US 93.3
  • Fort Wayne received a $1 million grant from the Indiana Brownfields Program to help clean up contamination at the 29-acre North River property; the city has already secured $3.4 million in grants. City Council members said cleanup costs may near $6 million, which could challenge future plans for a new fieldhouse and recreational facilities.  The Journal Gazette
