- ➤ The American Red Cross is asking volunteers to help install free smoke alarms at the Sound the Alarm event scheduled for Saturday, May 17 from 10 to 2 p.m. Training will be provided before teams visit homes to share fire safety tips, and no prior experience is needed. WOWO
- ➤ Allen County Public Library and Blessings in a Backpack will distribute about 10,800 bags of food for children ages 18 and younger from May 30 to July 25 on Fridays at the Main Library and seven branch locations—doubling last year's program to help fight local food insecurity. - ➤ Late Saturday night, a motorcyclist died after a collision between a motorcycle and a car on U.S. 30 and Kromer Road in Fort Wayne — police say speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors and the incident remains under investigation. WFFT-TV
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Fort Wayne police arrested Andre Lee (age 44) today in the 3300 block of West Coliseum Boulevard after charging him with attempted murder and aggravated battery for a shooting last week in which a man was shot at about 7:30 p.m. in the 4300 block of East State Boulevard and taken to a local trauma hospital in a life threatening condition. - ➤ Due to INDOT drainage repairs at the intersection of Lima Road and Progress Drive, the southbound right turn lane and right lane are intermittently closed from May 12 to May 16 — drivers are asked to detour via Coliseum Boulevard to Executive Boulevard — to reach Progress Drive. US 93.3
