  • Fort Wayne police say vandals damaged a thrift store and other local businesses on Calhoun Street on Thursday, May 7 — investigators are working to identify the culprits.  21Alive

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum in North Judson begins its 2026 train excursion season this Saturday as part of National Train Day, with diesel and steam trains departing every Saturday until the end of September, offering rides in vintage cars + open-air sightseeing cars.  KPC News
  • The Foellinger-Freimann Botanical Conservatory hosts the Color In Motion: Butterfly Exhibit through June 21. Tickets cost $7 for adults and $5 for children, with kids two and under free as the conservatory enters its busy season.  WFFT-TV

  • This morning Fort Wayne Community Schools announced its annual teaching awards by naming Regan Jones from Bloomingdale Elementary as Elementary Teacher of the Year and Lashawnda Martin from South Side High as Secondary Teacher of the Year.  The Journal Gazette
  • PFW’s College of Visual and Performing Arts broke ground on the Dorothy and Paul Shaffer Fine Arts Gallery on Thursday at 10 a.m. at its Visual and Performing Arts Building — the $1.3 million project will show student, faculty, and alumni art and will open in Nov. 2027.  21Alive
  • Homestead High School students met with TinCaps players Thursday afternoon to practice Spanish and build cultural bridges in a hands-on session funded by the SACS Education Foundation Impact Grant + teacher Joanne Perez said the event may continue annually.  21Alive

  • Peregrine falcon Moxie laid her second egg for the 2026 season at the I&M building downtown early Thursday, as experts at the Soarin’ Hawk Raptor Rehabilitation Center said a rival falcon may be distracting her.  21Alive

  • Daniel's Place has broken ground in North Manchester for a new 24/7 disability care facility that will serve Wabash County. Founder Cheryl Working said the center will help caregivers get a needed break + is one of few such facilities in Northeast Indiana.  WFFT-TV
  • Gov. Mike Braun announced on Wednesday that Indiana expanded its healthcare pricing system to form Indiana Health Prices (integrating hospital cash prices, prescription tools and provider data) that offers residents clear cost comparisons and a chatbot to guide pricing questions.  WOWO
