  • Local influencer Katie Jo’s organization Nourishing Our Neighbors partnered with Mustard Seed Furniture Bank to distribute 300 free meals and 75 twin-sized mattresses in a drive-through event, adding kits of grocery essentials to support food and housing stability (Colleen Connell reported).  WFFT-TV
  • Law enforcement officers will join Dunkin’ locations on Friday, May 15 to support Special Olympics Indiana by asking customers to donate for free treats. Nearly 50 agencies across the state will help fund sporting programs for over 20,000 athletes & boost community ties.  WOWO
  • American Cancer Society Relay for Life of Northwest Allen County Schools and Community will host its tenth annual Relay for Life event on May 9 at Carroll High School Fieldhouse + residents are invited to join and enjoy features such as Kids Who Care, Paws-itively Pets, and a Locker Room.  WFFT-TV

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Indiana farmers encountered tough weather last week as hail and frost slowed corn and soybean planting progress across several counties. Some growers in Dubois and Tippecanoe counties reported hail damage requiring replanting (USDA figures show steady progress despite challenges).  US 93.3
  • A state report shows Indiana added 500+ jobs in April, mostly in northeast Indiana. A South Korean firm is building its first U.S. plant in Huntington — starting with 300 jobs in an electric battery facility expected to grow to 400+ positions at $28 per hour.  WFFT-TV

  • Fort Wayne City Clerk John McGauley officiated free weddings for seven couples and a vow renewal on Monday at Citizens Square in honor of Star Wars Day—he said the ceremonies help couples with limited resources and add fun to the community.  The Journal Gazette

  • Fort Wayne FC’s home opener on Monday, May 4 (last night) caused heavy traffic near the stadium and raised concerns among nearby residents. City officials plan to review traffic plans for future game days.  21Alive
  • Indiana Fever and WOWO reached a broadcast agreement that will air every 2026 game on 92.3 FM, starting with the season opener on May 9. Former TinCaps announcer John Nolan returns to call games (a local favorite) in Fort Wayne.  WOWO
  • The TinCaps are back at Parkview Field this week as they open their season today at 6:35 p.m. with the Hispanic Heritage Game featuring a rally towel giveaway — followed by themed nights and promotions through May 10.  US 93.3
  • On May 4, the first professional soccer match took place at Ruoff Mortgage Stadium as ongoing construction delays led to refunds for some fans & unfinished work persisted after the game.  WFFT-TV
  • After dropping their Tuesday game, Fort Wayne's team rallied with five straight wins to secure the series and is riding a hot streak heading into its upcoming homestand.  WFFT-TV
