  • Humane Fort Wayne rescued 43 Australian Shepherds from an active puppy mill and now houses 37 dogs, with the first available for adoption today. The shelter is asking for donations of treats & toys and help finding forever homes.  21Alive
  • Habitat for Humanity of Greater Fort Wayne marks 40 years by planning a record season of 34 new homes and a Critical Repair Program. The build season kicks off with a wall raising (Wednesday, May 6 at 7:30 a.m. at 2326 Lillie Street) as affordable housing demand grows.  WFFT-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Chelsea Anderson has been named executive and artistic director of Fort Wayne Civic Theatre and will begin work Monday alongside Phillip Colglazier, who will retire June 30. Anderson, a seasoned producer and playwright from Indianapolis and Phoenix, is set to shape the theatre's future as it plans its 100th anniversary.  The Journal Gazette

  • Gas stations in Fort Wayne posted $4.79 a gallon for regular gas Wednesday and prices may rise further, according to petroleum analyst Patrick De Haan — he cited international tensions and refinery issues as the cause.  21Alive

  • Fort Wayne Community Schools has added an eighth university to its Higher Education Coalition to improve college access for most seniors (80% of the class receive admission letters) and is in talks with a ninth institution to expand dual-credit offerings.  The Journal Gazette
  • The Allen County Public Library will host Dinosaurs: Fossils Exposed from May 1 to July 31 + the exhibit gives families a free chance to see dinosaur fossils at the downtown Main Branch.  WFFT-TV
  • Justin Sloffer (a Database Engineer for NACS) was recognized Wednesday for his technical expertise and people-first approach, and more teacher and staff awards will be presented today during the district's awards program.  21Alive
  • Fort Wayne Community Schools hosted a bike safety talk on April 29 at Northcrest and will hold a Fix-Up Day on May 3 and National Bike to School Day on May 6 at six elementary and several middle schools (with helmet fittings by Parkview Trauma and safety demos by police).  US 93.3

  • The Allen County Department of Environmental Management will hold an Electronics Recycling Event this Saturday (May 2) from 8 a.m. to noon at 2911 Meyer Road, where residents can safely recycle TVs, computers and phones with fees starting at $10 based on item count.  WFFT-TV

  • Governor Mike Braun announced the IN AI initiative to help businesses adopt human-centered AI, boost wages, and create more jobs statewide.
