COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Fort Wayne Zoo has turned into a magical lantern festival with Glo Wild starting at the end of March and running until May 26. The event features giant animal and plant lanterns best seen after dark, interactive displays for kids, free train rides and sky rides, and a special tasting menu – visitors are encouraged to enjoy it before the exhibit ends.  WANE 15
  • The 2025 Neighborhoods 101 Workshops will begin on May 29 at 5:30 p.m. at the main branch of the Allen County Public Library, with Workshop 1 (How to Serve on Boards and Commissions) led by Connie Haas Zuber. Residents may register for this free session with dinner (provided) and indicate interest in upcoming workshops on board governance, fundraising, funding opportunities, and conflict management.  US 93.3
  • On April 25, regional students used math, engineering and art skills for Community Harvest Food Bank’s Canstruction event at Glenbrook Square in Fort Wayne — building 'Story Time' inspired structures from cans to benefit local food banks. Several schools, including Central Noble, Concordia Lutheran, Northrop, North Side, Leo high schools and South Adams Middle School, raised over 20,000 cans while Central Noble replaced a lost pallet of 12,000 cans — and the winning school will receive a $1,000 People’s Choice Award.  KPC News

  • A 17-year-old Fort Wayne teen named Elmer Duran was sentenced to six years in Allen Superior Court after pleading guilty to battery and criminal recklessness in connection with a July shooting—his plea agreement dismissed an attempted murder charge.  21Alive
  • On April 25th, 2025, Fort Wayne police arrested two men at Swinney Park after a directed patrol responded to complaints of lewdness—one man exposed himself and offered sexual acts while the other exposed himself, fondled himself, and resisted arrest.  Around Fort Wayne

CULTURE NEWS

  • Fort Wayne will host its first Big Fort Fest from July 10 to 12 at Headwaters Park with gates opening at 6 p.m. on July 10. The three-day music festival will feature Grammy-winning Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, Saxsquatch, and local acts like Sankofa and T-Zank — with Breland headlining on July 11 and Theory of Deadman closing the event on July 12.  Greater Fort Wayne Business Weekly

  • Indiana’s first lady Maureen Braun launched a funding initiative to secure support for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library amid proposed state budget cuts. She is working with state leaders and local groups in Allen County—where fundraising events have already generated funds—to ensure the program continues to grow.  21Alive

  • Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation installed temporary fencing around the playground at Bloomingdale Park due to safety concerns, and the park closed for repairs. City officials said equipment repair or replacement will take a few months—possibly until mid-summer.  US 93.3
