  • Volunteers in Fort Wayne are invited to join the Great American Cleanup on April 30 as the city provides garbage bags — gloves and T-shirts to help clear litter along roadsides, parks and trails. The event follows previous efforts where over 3,700 locals cleaned more than 109,600 pounds of debris from community spaces.  US 93.3

CRIME NEWS

  • On Friday morning, at 3:48 a.m., Allen County Jail officers found an unresponsive inmate who was pronounced dead at the scene, and Indiana State Police are assisting in the investigation.  21Alive
  • Fort Wayne police are still seeking Isaiah Wilson, 26, in connection with the murder of Kamari Daquan Taylor, 23, who was fatally shot early April 13 near Monroe and Wayne streets—Crimestoppers is offering up to $5,000 for information that leads to his arrest.  The Journal Gazette
  • The 20-year-old who livestreamed an attack at a Kroger in Georgetown Square was sentenced Friday to 33 years in prison with seven years probation per count after pleading guilty to three counts of attempted murder—he fired six shots but did not injure anyone.  The Journal Gazette

  • After 107 days, the legislative session ended early Friday at the Statehouse. Lawmakers rushed many bills—covering school accountability, chronic absenteeism and energy rules—toward Gov. Mike Braun’s review.  WFFT-TV
  • Fort Wayne officials and community members gathered on Friday at Kettler Park for an Arbor Day celebration that featured a proclamation by Mayor Sharon Tucker, who declared April 25 as Arbor Day+ and an awards presentation recognizing the city as Tree City USA for 35 straight years and as a Growth Award honoree for 20 straight years. A tree planting took place and tree seedlings were offered to residents in a project run with Trees Indiana+ that showed the city's strong effort to care for its urban forest.  21Alive
  • The City of Fort Wayne Public Works Department announced intermittent closures on Lima Road starting Tuesday, April 29 for drainage repair at the intersection with Progress Road, and drivers should take the detour via Coliseum Boulevard + Executive Boulevard through Friday, May 2.  21Alive
