COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Fort Wayne Trails donated $157,000 on Thursday to complete the Hannah Street trail—closing the final gap of the 4.5-mile path by finishing the trailhead in southeast Fort Wayne. City officials said they will review designs and seek developers in May to begin construction.  WFFT-TV
  • Nearly 3,000 Northeastern REMC customers in northeast Whitley and northwest Allen Counties lost power Thursday morning (over 2,900 south and east of Churubusco were affected). A company Facebook post cited an AEP transmission issue, and REMC leaders said more details will be shared soon (as repair efforts continue).  21Alive

  • Indiana’s Mac & Cheese Festival will return to Parkview Field on July 19 from 3-8 p.m. — the event will feature over 30 mac and cheese varieties, over 100 drink options, live music, and family contests, marking its second year after a successful debut.  Greater Fort Wayne Business Weekly
  • Parkview Field will host the Mac & Cheese Festival on Saturday, July 19. Organized by Outlier Events, the festival will offer over 30 kinds of mac & cheese, more than 100 drink options, a mac & cheese eating contest, live music, and yard games, with tickets on sale starting May 8.  WANE 15

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A new documentary titled ‘Make A Circle’ will premiere Saturday and focuses on the childcare crisis in Fort Wayne as local providers struggle after emergency funds ended. Executive Director Dani Svanter at Westminster Preschools says centers licensed for 100 children now enroll only 50 while experienced teachers earn just $13 to $15 an hour—exposing a financial shortfall that affects families.  21Alive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Indiana State Police and the DEA are partnering tomorrow (April 26) to host a Prescription Drug Take Back event at the Fort Wayne Post (5811 Ellison Rd) from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. where residents can safely dispose of expired, unused, or unwanted pill and liquid medications.  US 93.3
  • Allen County is using $73.6 million from ARPA to improve drainage by funding water, sewer and stormwater projects+ including a $1 million project on the Argo Upper Cutoff in Monroeville and a $2 million drainage project in Arcola that closed a road from April 24 to August 1.
