COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The YMCA of Greater Fort Wayne announced that the Parkview Family YMCA on Dawsons Creek Blvd will offer 24-hour access starting in June, adding to four other round-the-clock facilities in the area. Members 18 and older can add this service for $4.99 a month — and those who pre-purchase in May will receive early access benefits.  The Journal Gazette

CRIME NEWS

  • Officers responded to a shooting at a home in the 1600 block of Hinton Drive at 7:30 and later chased a suspect whose car crashed on State Road 9 and Road 100 East—police returned fire resulting in the suspect’s death while a man from the home was declared dead on arrival—investigators continue to look into the events.  WOWO
  • A 23-year-old Fort Wayne man is accused of attempting to kill two men in a shooting at Pierre’s Entertainment Center earlier this month—one man suffered a neck injury and another a leg injury—and police say surveillance footage and a vehicle crash helped identify him.  21Alive
  • A 30-year-old Fort Wayne man, Michael Eugene Ward Jr.—accused of attempted murder, criminal recklessness, and unlawful carrying of a handgun—fired three rounds at his wife in an Uber on April 17, shattering the vehicle’s rear window and flattening a tire while leaving both her and the driver uninjured; he is scheduled for an initial hearing on Wednesday and is held at Allen County Jail.  21Alive

CULTURE NEWS

  • Martin Fisher, who led Science Central for 17 years and became a familiar face on Science Sunday, will officially leave in the next few weeks — colleagues praise his hands-on leadership and commitment to innovative exhibits. His work on capital campaigns and traveling gallery projects helped connect the museum with Fort Wayne visitors — staff say his compassion and drive have made a lasting impact.  WANE 15

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • In-DOT officials said Safe Zones enforcement will begin on May 5 with speed cameras on I-69 and I-4-65 near Indianapolis. Officials also noted a new zone may soon start on I-4-69 at Fort Wayne’s east side — where a speeder was arrested for driving 132 mph in a construction zone — and drivers going 11 mph over the limit will get a warning on their first violation then fines for later ones.  WOWO
  • Allen Superior Court leaders say they are returning nearly $359,000 from surplus Sheriff’s Sale funds to former owners or heirs in 70 foreclosure cases— the program started in 2021 and has already returned over $3 million in 121 cases.  21Alive
