  • Big Brother Big Sister will start its 'It Takes 2' volunteer recruitment campaign on April 24+ the program aims to recruit 500 volunteers in 90 days while running through August 2. Director Bailey Roe and Big Brother Jerick shared campaign details with WANE 15+ local families can apply to be a Big or a Little on the organization website.  WANE 15
  • Tickets are now available for the Cookin’ Fort Wayne fundraiser, which will be held at Union Street Market inside Electric Works on May 21 with the VIP rooftop opening at 5 p.m. and general admission at 6 p.m.—the event is a partnership between the Do it Best Foundation and Ronald McDonald House Charities of Northeast Indiana offering general tickets for $150 and VIP tickets for $250.  WANE 15
  • South Side Farmers Market started its 99th season on Saturday and remains the oldest continuously operating market in Fort Wayne. It runs every Saturday from Easter to mid-December at a local historic site on Warsaw Street—offering fresh produce from local farmers and gardeners.  21Alive
  • Community organizers held a Day of Action rally and food drive in Fort Wayne yesterday where volunteers collected food donations and distributed meals to residents in need — officials said the event expanded local relief efforts.  The Journal Gazette
  • LC Nature Park held Open Park Day on April 19 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. where visitors paid $7 for admission and enjoyed guided hikes starting at 9:30 a.m. with safari bus tours each hour beginning at 10 a.m.—the park will remain open until October 25.  WANE 15

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • One person died in a crash between a motorcycle and a box truck on the northside of Fort Wayne on Friday when emergency crews arrived around 2:30 at the intersection of Parnell Ave. and Spy Run Ave.—The truck driver was unharmed while the motorcyclist was declared dead at the scene.  WOWO
  • An adult male died today when his pickup truck left the road and struck a utility pole near the intersection of St. Joe Road and Roebuck Boulevard just before 2 a.m.—officers are investigating if speed or alcohol were factors.  WANE 15

  • George’s International will celebrate 40 years next Saturday, April 26 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in its parking lot, where team members (Roulie Mangos, Chris Roulie, Jerry Roulie, and Eleni Rongos) will share the store’s history with guests.  WANE 15

CRIME NEWS

  • A Fort Wayne Komets fan with Down syndrome was harassed on New Year’s Eve when two men tossed foam pucks at him during a game—his family and the Coliseum took action—and Heartlanders fan Rik Zortman, whose son died from cancer in 2009, will honor him on Saturday by running through town and spelling his name ahead of the Derby Cup playoffs game at 7:35 p.m. at Allen County War Memorial Coliseum.  21Alive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • County leaders gave an update on the new jail construction taking place on a 142-acre lot on Meyer Road—despite several delays—and said more space will be available for inmates. Officials stated the project broke ground in late 2024 and said it will be complete by late 2027—doubling the capacity of the current downtown jail—.  WOWO
