  • Community Foundation DeKalb County launches its fourth annual Give Where You Live DeKalb fundraiser from May 4-8 in Auburn (46706) to support its participation in Lilly Endowment Inc.'s GIFT IX initiative, which provides a two-to-one match for contributions.  KPC News
  • Fort Wayne's south side will soon feature a new YMCA at the Summit Campus on Rudisill Boulevard. Construction begins in August and the scaled-down Turpin Family YMCA will open early 2027, offering fitness equipment (group classes, youth sports, and childcare for parents).  21Alive
  • Google contributed $700,000 in community funding on Thursday to Allen and Morgan County communities amid a winter crisis. The company provided Chromebook accessories and mobile hotspots to six school districts and distributed heating assistance plus food funds to nonprofits while launching a solar plus battery storage model for low-income households.  21Alive
  • Hope's Harbor accepted a $2,000 gift from the Community Foundation DeKalb County on Apr. 16 when executive director Wendy Hoering + director of development Hannah Cottingham received the check from volunteer Mahlan Dircksen.  KPC News

  • DISH Network pulled 21Alive News and other Gray Media channels from its service more than a month ago after failing to agree on new terms following major events (NFL playoffs, the Super Bowl, and Winter Olympics). CULTURE NEWS

  • Fort Wayne Zoo opens for the season on Friday, April 24 at 9 a.m. with musical performances and a ribbon cutting by Zoo Executive Director Rick Schuiteman. Visitors will meet baby orangutan Raya and see new animals in the Indonesian Rainforest Dome, and the zoo operates daily until Oct. 31.  WFFT-TV
  • A documentary about Fort Wayne’s first female firefighter was released on Apr. 16. It highlights her pioneering work and the challenges she overcame while breaking barriers in the community.  21Alive

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • City leaders including Mayor Sharon Tucker broke ground on the $20 million Landing Exchange mixed-use project on Harrison Street. The development will include 40 residential units and commercial space and finish construction in late 2027.  WFFT-TV
  • A rezoning request in Huntertown could bring Kroger Marketplace to the community, featuring 100,000 sqft of retail space with food, apparel, and home goods, along with online pickup services, a pharmacy, a Starbucks & 14 gas pumps. The proposal is set for review by the zoning board in May.  21Alive
