  • Honor Flight Northeast Indiana will celebrate its 50th flight on April 23 by flying 84 veterans to Washington, D.C. to visit memorials honoring their service, and the flight—sponsored by Phil’s One Stop which raised over $500,000—will mark a milestone as the organization has flown 3,817 veterans so far.  21Alive

CRIME NEWS

  • Indiana State Police solved a more than 50-year-old cold case when detectives used new DNA work and forensic genealogy to identify Fred Allen Lienemann—who was killed in 1985—as the man linked to the shooting death of Phyllis Bailer on July 7 while she was driving with her daughter.  21Alive

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation has partnered with Trees Indiana to offer free tree seedlings for Arbor Day with over 150 seedlings available on a first-come, first-served basis until April 23. Residents will pick them up (Eastern White Pine, Red Oak, and American Plum) on April 25 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Kettler Park on the south side.  21Alive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Indiana forecast data shows revenue for the next budget cycle will drop by $2 billion and the current cycle is short by $400 million, which may force lawmakers to make tough spending cuts + consider adjustments to state taxes. Lawmakers will work to draft a balanced biennial budget that protects public services + plans measures including a potential $2 per pack cigarette tax increase to help bridge the gap.  The Journal Gazette
