COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Visit Fort Wayne was honored with two awards from the Indiana Tourism Association for hosting a volleyball event (a highlight among major city happenings) that helped boost local tourism. The awards recognize its continued effort to bring large events to the city.  WFFT-TV

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Five Lakes Coffee has opened its second location on Falls Drive in the Village of Coventry — replacing the former Zing Cuisine. The coffee shop offers a range of drinks and baked goods with daily specials this week.  21Alive

CULTURE NEWS

  • Visit Fort Wayne received two awards from the Indiana Tourism Association for bringing big events to the city. The group was honored for hosting the Paravolley Sitting Volleyball World Cup at Turnstone in October and for organizing the International Association of Jewish Genealogical Societies conference last year.  WFFT-TV
  • The new Summer Arts Series will feature local music events starting May 1, with performances each Saturday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Pearl Street — between Maiden Lane and Webster Street — and will run through September.  21Alive

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Allen County Public Library is hosting community listening sessions at its branches (Georgetown, New Haven, and Shawnee) on April 22 and 23 to gather input on planned improvements, with engagement boards available at each location through May 13.  WFFT-TV
  • After finishing in the top 10 at the state championships, the Wabash Middle School robotics team qualified for the VEX Robotics Worlds Competition (an international contest where they will compete with teams from around the globe).  WFFT-TV
  • Northwest Allen County Schools approved a pilot pre-K program Monday to serve 4-year-olds with a monthly tuition of $300 while keeping classes free for students with qualifying individual education programs, aiming to meet local preschool needs and potentially expand later if the pilot succeeds.  The Journal Gazette

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Allen County Department of Environmental Management moved its recycling drop-off site north of 2260 Carroll Road due to ongoing illegal dumping; the site is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. to serve community recycling needs.  21Alive

HEALTH NEWS

  • Alliance Health Centers broke ground on a new autism clinic at Fort Wayne Urban League's Hanna Street headquarters and will renovate the lower level to offer autism screenings, diagnoses, and integrated services for children and families.  WFFT-TV

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • The Elex opened in Fort Wayne near Electric Works with 296 apartments, including 89 for affordable housing, after a ribbon-cutting with city council, Biggs Group and other representatives. Plans call for a gym + early learning center to be added on site.  WFFT-TV
