COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Fort Wayne’s Maple Place and Irishtown commercial districts have been listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Maple Place district features 14 early 20th-century bungalows while the Irishtown district includes historic Italianate and mid-20th Century Modern buildings; the designation supports local preservation efforts under the Packard 2030 Plan.  The Waynedale News
  • The City of Fort Wayne invites residents to learn about the Poka-Bache Connector Trail during an informational meeting on April 8 at 6:00 p.m. at Waynedale United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall (covering the project along east Bluffton Road from Lower Huntington Road to Ferguson Road) with construction set to begin in 2028.  The Waynedale News
  • The City of Fort Wayne seeks volunteers for the annual Great American Cleanup, set for Saturday, May 2 between 8 and 9 a.m. Volunteers will receive supplies (garbage bags, gloves, t-shirts) and need to sign up by April 10.  21Alive
  • State parks will soon offer free track chairs to help visitors with limited mobility explore trails — the new 45 electric-powered chairs, funded by a $1M Lilly Endowment grant, will roll out across the system to boost accessibility.  The Waynedale News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Young women ages 17 to 21 in Allen County can apply for the Miss Allen County Queen Scholarship Program at the fairgrounds on April 26 at 5:00 p.m. Applicants must submit by April 1 to compete for scholarships and prizes + build life skills through interview, public speaking, and more.  The Waynedale News
  • Kinley Strahm, a 6th-grade student at Blackhawk Christian School, won the Region 8 Education Service Center spelling bee at the Allen County Public Library (Downtown Branch) on March 21 and will compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington (D.C.) this summer.  The Waynedale News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Indiana DNR implemented a permanent invasive carp harvest permit (312 IAC 9-10-28) in December 2025 to tackle carp problems in public waters and protect native fish and boating. Permit holders may use approved gear and must follow reporting and gear rules.  The Waynedale News

  • A $100k winning Powerball ticket for Monday, Mar. 30 was purchased at Phil’s One Stop #1 on St. Joe Center Road + Hoosier Lottery officials advise players to check tickets using the app and secure their ticket.  21Alive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • U.S. Air Force Chief Master Sgt. Joseph A. Lewis was named the new command chief at Indiana Air National Guard Base on March 14. He replaces outgoing Chief Master Sgt. Kyle D. Hoopingarner, who retires after 27 years of service — marking a leadership transition for the base.  The Waynedale News
  • Drivers in Fort Wayne will face delays as the Public Works Division starts the $9 million Illinois Road Trail and Road Improvement Project on a nearly two-mile trail linking Rockhill Park to the Illinois Road corridor. Construction will use alternative lane closures and finish in fall 2027.  The Waynedale News
