  • Fort Wayne’s Maple Place Historic District and Irishtown Commercial Historic District were added to the National Register today. Property owners in these historic areas may qualify for rehabilitation tax credits as they preserve local heritage.  WFFT-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Southwest Allen County Schools Board of Trustees met Monday evening to oppose a quarry planned near US 24 by a new IU Health Hospital and Lafayette Meadows Elementary because of risks to student safety and patient care; IU Health officials warned that industrial impacts could harm healthcare access.  21Alive
  • The Southwest Allen County Schools board voted tonight to oppose a proposed quarry near Lafayette Meadows Elementary — a unanimous decision reflecting concerns over student safety and traffic. The Heritage Group will hold a public meeting on Apr. 22 at the Landmark Centre to discuss project details.  The Journal Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • INDOT announced that bridge deck overlay work will begin on State Road 124 near Bluffton on Monday, March 30 and is expected to last until mid-August. Drivers are advised to follow detour routes via State Road 1, State Road 218 and State Road 3 during the closure.  21Alive
  • Starting on or after Monday, INDOT announced work will begin on U.S.-24 between Linden and Doyle roads and on the I-469 on-ramp from eastbound Rose Ave. to southbound I-469, with alternate lane closures and work scheduled to finish by the end of April.  US 93.3
  • A portion of Leesburg Road in Fort Wayne was renamed Saint Francis Drive on Mar. 23 to honor Francis of Assisi — the new name reflects local cultural heritage.  WFFT-TV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Neighborhood Health (serving over 25,000 patients) warned that an Indiana FSSA proposal to divert savings from the 340B Drug Pricing Program will cost the provider about $1.2 million annually and affect care, with community members urged to send comments by 5 p.m. Friday.  21Alive
  • Lutheran Health Network announced Monday that its community impact last year reached $766 million in the local area, coming from charity programs and capital investments. The network opened a new facility at 1215 Healthcare Place to offer more primary care and imaging services.  The Journal Gazette
